Epic’s Project Sword officially known as Infinity Blade, coming to iDevices this holiday

Project Sword is dead.

Long live Infinity Blade.

Epic’s just about ready to pull its iPhone powerhouse Project Sword from the developmental stone, so now it’s finally time for some concrete details. First up, the game’s title is now Infinity Blade, which sounds sort of painful. Then again, these are the people who invented the chainsaw gun, so they probably treat limb severance with the same urgency anyone else would treat a paper cut.

Also, there’s the matter of a release window. Previously, it was “2010,” but now it’s officially “Holiday 2010″ – probably because that’s the only release window left this year.

Unchanged, however, is Unreal Engine 3′s damn near mindblowing transition to iDevices. Infinity Blade will, of course, feature experience points, level ups, and all sorts of cool abilities, but we’ll probably spend our first few hours using precisely none of those things – instead preferring to stare slack-jawed and coat the screen with a nice layer of drool.

“More than one million people have been introduced to the world of ‘Infinity Blade’ through our free app, ‘Epic Citadel,’ and soon everyone will be able to play our first fully featured game for iOS devices,” said Epic president Mike Capps. “With ‘Infinity Blade,’ ChAIR has created an amazing looking, incredibly fun game that really demonstrates the potential of triple-A mobile gaming.”

So Chair’s going by “ChAIR” now? How unfortunate.

Looking really good for a phone game … cant wait to play it on my iPad, curious about the gameplay. Toucharcade has some more shots. I’m keen to see, what Id Software does next for the phone.
