EA Q2 financials: NBA Elite 11 canceled

EA CFO Eric Brown has just confirmed in the publisher’s Q2 financial call that development on NBA Elite 11 has been outright canceled.

It now means the only NBA title to release this year is NBA Jam for PS3, 360 and Wii.

Development on NBA Elite will now be handed over to Madden developer EA Tiburon from previous developer EA Canada.

“Future development of Elite will be handled at EA Tiburon,” said COO John Schappert.

Woah, wasn’t the game on the verge of release before it got delayed?
How do you go from “this needs more polish” to “fuck this shit!”

If this was close to release and they delayed it, why not release it and get some easy $$$ from it

This is bonkers. I played the game a few months ago at EA and it was fantastic. Seemed pretty complete too.

Sounds like some other reason got the game pulled to me. Legal maybe? …Or maybe it was just utter tripe, and Harry has no taste.

No it was seriously good. They had completely redone the control method and it was so intuitive – much more skill based than the scripted control of previous games. I really was very impressed.

Well, there’s still NBA 2K11 from 2K Sports, which is out and seems pretty good, no ?

it wouldn’t surprise me if this became NBA Elite 12. Maybe they cancel it, let it die down, then announce NBA Elite 12 in 8 months time.

Wow, I totally called that! :-D

And I think renegadegd has it spot on. It’s not ‘canned’, it’s just ‘super-delayed to next year’, where it’ll appear as the 12 edition.
