IGN goes live with first Kinect software review, goes with 7.5 for Sonic Free Riders

Oh dear… I shall deduct 3 from every score released for Kinect games in the next 4 months… the novelty should have worn off by then and hopefully the industry will restore it’s sense of reality about this sort of rubbish.

Unless of course Kinect has dramatically improved sins I had a go at Eurogamer Expo this year I’m just skeptical on how any game can be more than a 6 or 7

Of all the stuff I’ve seen for Kinect, which isn’t that much actually, this looked the worst. Feels like Sega are just jumping on as quick as they can again, with rubbish, like they did with Sonic The Hedgehog on the PS3/360.

This looked terrible in the GiantBomb quick-look, and Eurogamer recently ran a preview shitting all over it. Maybe it’s improved beyond recognition.

Yeah, Keza didn’t exactly give it all the love in the world in that EG preview.

Still, Dance Central has to be the pick of the launch line-up.

Let’s see… Sega says that we’ve released too many Sonic games in the past and now will have to focus more on quality than quality. Then they go and release 3 Sonic games in less than 3 months.

Also, I checked Sonic Riders on PS2 and it was a truly mediocre game. Does Kinect really improve the experience or…

I’m expecting 9′s and 10′s across the board with all the wordings of “revolutionary”, “killer app”, and so on…

Mostly 8s I reckon. Some 9s, some 7s and a SHOCKHORROR 4 from one of the usual suspects (destructoid or someone like that)

There is no Score system in reviews. For some reviewers 7.5 is a good game, for some idiots 7.5 is mediocre and lame.

See I’m almost certain the kinects biggest feats will be in dancing games. The sitting on a stool bit just appears to be dangerous for me and overweight gamers. I am 6’3 and 210 lbs if I lean forward on a stool to long I will fall forward. Soooo… that being my personal flaw I can see it happening to others.

Now, as for this stool issue. Are we planning on seeing the kinect is nightclubs and bars now? Can it function in those’s atmospheres? I must research this more!

As for the sonic riders in kinect this 7.5 is higher then I’d have expected. I truely expected like 5-6.5 scores. But, forthe time being I applaud this game with a slow clap.

But it’s only an individual’s opinion, just as valid as any other comment from anyone else who has played it, you can never really trust a review anyways, just look @ GTA IV, while i love it & nearly every single reviewer loved it, there are many who hate the theme of it, & after playing GTA: San Andreas, many also hated the lack of customization.
Also there are games such as Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil 4, The Legend of Zelda & GoldenEye 007 which are some of the most popular games of all time, but when i played them while they were new, all i thought was meh.
Reviews are just opinions, don’t follow them blindly, some people do =/

by the way, Ign isn’t just an opinion from a guy on the internet, those folks get paid for writing recommendations. they aren’t doing it for the lulz. they’ve taken upon themselves to recommend games to people, and these games cost money. thus, Ign’s reviews should be consistent in their scoring.

and like i said before, giving out a 0.75 to a mediocre game is a fundamentally flawed system, since if their scores start out at 5-7, they basically say there’s no such thing as poor titles. which is in fact, a cleverly disguised way of avoiding problems with any of the publishers.
