vanquish8

We have put them all in one place for you. As usual, if you have anything to add, let us know in the comments below.

Vanquish releases on October 19 in US and October 22 in the EU for PS3 and 360.

How can it get such high scores if it’s 5 hours long? Seriously, it’s ridiculous. I see games like Fallout, Castlevania etc, games that lasts 12 hours at the absolute minimum, get 7′s and 8′s.

Edit: Your Eurogamer score links to Computerandvideogames btw.

Well it’s that time-honored question, isn’t it. Which would you prefer: five minutes with Megan Fox, five hours with the artist formerly known as Ginger Spice or fifty hours with a hotdog bap and some oven grease?

@1: I’d give a slippery 10 minute titwank from a page 3 girl a 9/10 vs a 3/10 for a 4 hour handjob from a coal miner.

Edit – Damn you bill!

Because it’s not five hours long. The timer is the game is just weird, so it’s shows about five hours of playtime when you’ve actually invested more.

And if you actually invest in the game full breath of content, there is *easily* tens of hours of content.

Also… quality over quantity.

Length does not make a game, quality and mojo does.

@3 LMAO

quality mate! but yeah quality over quantity is the general consensus here.

For example I found AC2 to be a great long game but half way through (around 10 hours) the story lost pace and it couldn’t keep up with the fantastic start it achieved. Sometimes less is more ya know!

@3 Hah! And my prurient bloke analogy was a whole *33 percent* longer than yours too.

they should’ve just added 30 hours of poorly directed cinematics with pseudo-intellectual babbling like in Mgs. that would bring up metacritic ratio to 90 easily.

Couldn’t keep pace with the plot of mgs DaMan?lol I for one will wait on vanquish, I liked the base of having a sd and hd option for the game but other then that no other real pull towards it. And I also just dropped 200 on a monitor for my gaming soooo I can wait till a sell hits by christmas.

i usually would be pissed at a game so damn short but in this case i’m disappointed yes but it wont matter cos after playing the demo for this game i can tell this will probly be my GOTY 2010 :D

I’m tired of people saying “so long gets boring”, this has JUST THE RIGHT lenght and everyone “oh, it’s too short”… I’m so fuckin’ tired of people saying (specially MGS haters, SOBs) “the plot is so dull, so complicated, why to do something like that?” and now “plot is shallow”… STFU and enjoy the best Japanese game of the year from this OUTSTANDING studio. And the one talking about “bad directed cutscenes” WTF is wrong with you? Are you a 360 owner? Even the most stupid 360 owner and PS3 hater would slap you for your mentions.

they were poorly done in the original, and even more so in the subsequent ones. to each their own.

@ 6, i agree but there definitely is a limit to that imo. 3 to 4 hours would be ridiculous for a full priced singleplayer game. However, it’s all very exeggerated and untrue. The game ain’t that short. I read about a error in the ingame timer.

@osric90: It’s not dull, or boring, or shallow… it’s just shit. I’ve seen 6 year olds write essays about their favourite space robots that were more coherent.

not enough time right now to play vanquish. halo and soon fable suck up all my gaming time. i think they´ve chosen a dangerous release date with all the mega hitters coming out. on the other hand- it wont end. it goes on till march 2011 at least…i´ll definitely pick this one up some time later anyway. i really love the japanese/ western artwork mix in this one. the demo was indeed fun. crazy crazy action…didn´t expect reviews to be that good though.

Since when has length of play been an indicator of quality?
At it’s heart isn’t Vanquish a score attack game?
So, you need it to be short so you can do it again and again to get up those leaderboards

#25

AHA-Lambda
19/10/10, 8:30 pm

@24 – it isnt but there are natural concerns over value for money. If it weren’t for the fact that this game is just plain THAT good i would be pissed off myself.

PS: i also got it for £23 from zavvi tho. Thanks neogaf! :)

5/10 Destructoid http://www.destructoid.com/review-vanquish

What they say in their review is what I said about the demo. So for ME.. this game is a rental at best and I’ll skip it all together.

Everyone has a preference. Me personally… I like Destructoid better than IGN and any site is better than Gamespot.

I was just adding one to the list that wasn’t up there. Can’t just show the reviews we like.

#31

YoungZer0
19/10/10, 9:29 pm

Why is it always Quality over Quantity? Why not both? I mean the campaign of Medal of Honor was fantastic, but before i could invest my emotion into it, the game ended. It’s just as bad as Quantity over Quality.

#32

YoungZer0
19/10/10, 9:47 pm

Yeah, but Destructoid is full of trolls who would write everything you want as long as it gives them the attention they need.

i can see your point but short and sweet is better than long and boring

#34

I can see your point as well, i just don’t understand why the videogame developers for f-/tps always decides that’s it’s either one or the other.

Portal was really short… still fucking awesome though. :)

#38

lexph3re
20/10/10, 12:37 am

Its not really about do these short games deserve these good ratings but do they deserve they’re marketed retail price of 60bucks? Imho these games aren’t worth the 60$ marker their given.

#39

freedoms_stain
20/10/10, 12:56 am

@37, when Portal came out it was part of a bundle that was of insane value for money. If you’re putting out a short game at full RRP eyebrows must be raised. Mine have started to merge with my hair line.

Quality 8 Quantity 2

I’ve emailed Platinum Games about the actual length and they are being very creepily quiet.

I want this game sooooo bad, but I have to get more bang for the buck, with Stupid Christmas coming I have to buy gifts for my wiener nieces and nephews, ungrateful brats they are! Ok Frosty, just put on a smile face and walk in with the Christmas gifts and pretend like your Happy to be giving away your gaming money to such spoiled brats…OMG I am so angry right now!! GRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

#42

Crysis
20/10/10, 5:31 am

@Frosty, consider yourself lucky, us Aussies have the exact same currency as Canadians, & a few cents different from the US, but we pay $30-50 more than Canadians & $40-60 more than the US (AKA we pay double the US! we pay $80 for the lower quality games & up to $119 for AAA games, some publishers even charge $119 for the crappiest games known to mankind (*Cough, Naughty Bear, Cough*), someone please explain this to me >:(
We have an incredibly close population density to Canada, so this makes no sense to me.

#43

frostquake
20/10/10, 5:41 am

@ Crysis

HOLY COW!!! That is Nuts!!!

What is the Minimum Wage in Your Area?? Surely you are paid higher wages than the average US’r?

Most Wallyworlds and MCDonnies pay around $7.00 an hour, but once you figure all the taxes they take out, you end up making about $3.80-$4.75, and then once you figure in the state and federal taxes on the product you are buying your wages drop even more….

If your wages are as low as the USA, then WOW!!!

#44

Crysis
20/10/10, 6:49 am

Never heard of a Wallyworld, but the minimum wage here is $569.90 per 38 hour week or $15-29% for income tax, $11.35 per hour, so our minimum wage is actually pretty high which is probably why we have a low unemployment rate, lower than the UK & even Japan but higher than the Netherlands & Switzerland.
Also we don’t have a Burger King here (in name), it had to be renamed because another company here already had the name(though now it is out of business), so it was named Hungry Jacks & we stuck with that, but if you look on the bottom of one of those kiddy toys-, it’ll say something about burger king corp.

No Walmart, but we do have Big W which is a subsidiary of Walmart, they pay above the minimum wage.

An interesting note from the Edge review since all talk seems focused on the games length.

“Vanquish plays out over eight hours that increase in pace, intensity and scale.”

Really enjoyed the demo, so looking forward to playing the full thing.
