Direct2Drive’s published a set of minimum specs for Call of Duty: Black Ops. Got an Intel Core2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom X3 8750 or better? You’re laughing.

These aren’t the official specs, obviously, but we’re assuming D2D didn’t just invent them. We’ll tap up Activision and see what happens.

Here’s the lot:

Call of Duty®: Black Ops Download Minimum System Requirements

  • OS: Windows Vista/XP/7
  • Processor: Intel Core2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom X3 8750 or better
  • Memory: 2GB

  • Video: Shader 3.0 or better 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT/ATI Radeon X1950Pro or better
  • Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible
  • DirectX: 9.0c

The game releases on November 9. A bunch of gameplay videos appeared over the weekend, so take a look as those while you wait.

Those are rather low specs… but I can only play on Max settings. It would be nice if they would start publishing, “Needed to Max” specs.

I knew they didn’t made any graphical improvements to the engine, so I’m not surprised.

Actually, these minimum requirement specs are higher than MW2. They are about double actually.

really not a huge cod fan at all – though i played and enjoyed them all -cod is the archetype of flat fps klichee storytelling but at least they play like melted butter so why should they change much on the technical side this gen? it works perfectly. i respect that treyarch made some major gameplay changes with all the new modes, customization etc. that´s what counts more than the technical stuff anyway. i´m really curious this time – i think the new ideas can really make cod a bit more interesting (and challenging) again. no complaints this far from me.

@8: You’re the most annoying and uneducated person i ever encountered on the Internet. That’s all.

“GREAT GMAE BUT EGNINES NOT FROM CYRTEK! SO IT SUCK!”

You ever thought why the specs aren’t that big? Why they keep using the same engine over and over again? It’s not laziness. It’s strategy.

    *facepalm* people people people
Would you like to know why these specs are kinda low? Would you really?
It’s because they want a large audience. If they have low requirements that means more people can play who don’t update their PC and it also means people who do have the best PC can also play.
They are very similar to Valve. Valve games have lowist specs but can still look pretty because if you have a decent computer all you gotta do is turn on max settings.

    Silly silly people.

“Would you like to know why these specs are kinda low? Would you really?”

Captain Obvious. Everybody know that when more of the Activision AAA titles like Starcraft II, World Of Warcraft (that i enjoy a lot) and Call OF Duty use old technology.

and we all know that it is because they need a large audience. But there is a problem… The engine is so old, that with these specs they could make new one and better that could run on the similar specs, it’s just Activision don’t want to spend money for the engine. Or maybe engeneering staff don’t know how to make a great proprietary engine.

you can optimize engine for PC without a problem.

Valve? Good example, but they never forget to treat guys with good hardware with some belts and whistles. Left 4 Dead 2 required anti Aliasing and a lot of 200 GTX series effects.
