Visceral making C&C game

commandandconquer

Visceral Games is creating a Command & Conquer title, the studio’s confirmed to Gamasutra.

The game is “pretty far out”, said Visceral Games label general manager Nick Earl.

Earl is head of action and strategy games at EA under the new label, and is looking to leverage brands out of its successful studios.

“Regardless of which particular geography, everyone feels like they’re part of one group. Think about the DICE brand as becoming a strong FPS brand with games like Battlefield, Bad Company 2, and with BioWare being a strong brand for RPGs – we’re trying to do that inside the action space, where EA has not had a strong position for some time,” he said.

The last big C&C title was EALA’s Command and Conquer 4 for PC.

What genre the Visceral C&C will cover is unknown, but EA has planned action titles from the series in the past, the last one being first-person shooter Tiberium.

Announced back at the start of 2008 for PS3, 360 and PC and in development at EALA, the shooter was then cancelled in September of that year for not being up to scratch.

“The game was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label. A lower-quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market,” EA said in a statement at the time.

Earlier this year, Visceral released Dante’s Inferno for PS3, 360 and PSP. It’s currently finishing up on Dead Space 2, which will release on January 28, 2011 in the UK for PS3, 360 and PC.

So they’re trying for another action C&C game? Well, it’s only failed twice. Third time’s a charm!

Red Alert 2 and Generals were the last C&C games that I truly loved. After that it’s all gone very down hill which is a shame.
However, if they manage to make it a decent game and intergrate the Move/Kinect into it very well then I might be tempted.

EA killed the series with Tiberian Twilight, cant they just let it rest in piece now? Unless this is Red Alert related…

Red alert 2 was the last decent one they did, i use 2 play that for hrs. Renegade is still my fav and I would love them to bring something very similar to consoles. I know you can get the free version ren alert but this would be amazing on consoles.

It’ll be an ‘action game’. Nick Earl says in the first quote that they’re the action guys.

I was a FB fan of C&C4 only to read the FAIL comments posted after EVERY post.. quite hilarious. Last good one in my opinion was C&C3. Visceral make good games I just hope they know what they are getting into.
