No 60-player multiplayer in Resistance 3, confirms Insomniac

Insomniac’s confirmed in the latest issue of Game Informer that 60 player multiplayer won’t be returning for Resistance 3.

The massive multiplayer matches in Resistance 2 were one of the game’s key features two years ago.

But it won’t be making a return, according to the mag, with IG saying the MP in R3 will be lighter.

No exact player-number was confirmed, though.

“The approach to multiplayer in Resistance 3 is to really streamline the things that were popular with Resistance 1 and Resistance 2,” said creative director Marcus Smith.

“Obviously, weapon usage is a big one, but we also have our progression through multiplayer, which is a lot tighter. It’s going to reward people as they go.”

Smith added that R3′s multiplayer maps will have battles that will be mentioned throughout the campaign. Africa has already been outed as one location.

“We’re also setting the location of all multiplayer maps in various locations around the world. During the single-player campaign, you’ll be hearing updates [via a radio show] of those battles as you’re progressing through the game.”

This is just the latest spill from the game’s GI cover story. Over the weekend quotes emerged about the ongoing nature of the series, and we got a general info dump earlier last week.

R3′s out next year for PS3.

Of course no 60 player MP. Resistance 2 had a fucked up balance.

For me, it wasn’t balance. It was just too much.

Insomniac handled the whole thing well, it has to be said, by splitting everyone up in teams doing tactical objectives instead of mashing everyone together and ensuing massive lag.

40-player matches in R1, though, was magic. *remembers it fondly*

@2 I always prefer if MP have more players, but it’s not about too much. It’s about the balance and maps size. You can make really cool MP with 60 or more people if you know how to do it right.

Battlefield 2 had 64 players online and it was perfect for these massive battles with vehicles.

If Insomniac can create a perfect MP with 32, 40, 16 or 8 people, than let it be.

Ted’s also calling it the best game they’ve ever done!

    I just hope that’s true!

good decission. i also don´t think balancing was an issue…it was just too hectic for my taste. still awesome mp. @4. he must say that…but if it really is true we will see one of the finest games this gen….insomniac made awesome games….my only real problem with that is that 1 returned to a one console only way of life…i picked 360…will have to borrow a ps3 for resistance and last guardian i guess…uncharted and killzone i liked but i really don´t have to play these games.

    Mag says hello.

Who the hell wants small maps with 8players playing a constant match of spawn – shoot – respawn? While might feel instense for a few rounds, it is a shallow experience that will be over run with MNT DEW fueled teens impressing each other with their firm grasp of Fail.

Oh right, Hi there CoD, how are you doing today? Great? Glad to hear it!

*goes to play something more meaningful. Finds very little, and waits:
