Rumour – Game Room developer Krome Studios to close next week

According to a report from Tsumea (via Kotaku), Krome Studios is set to close on Monday.

The developer has apparently laid off all of its staff at its studios in Brisbane and Melbourne and will be shutting up shop on Monday.

Some staff, however, will be rehired as contractors to finish off remaining work on existing projects.

Krome made Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, Transformers: Armada and Game Room for Xbox 360 as well as the recent Blade Kitten.

Last year, the studio laid off an undisclosed number of employees across three studios as part of a restructuring process.

    Poor guys, they didn’t actually do that bad a job on Game Room. If only Microsoft had provided them with some game licenses that didn’t suck donkey balls they might’ve actually made some money out of it.

    I was looking forward to Blade Kitten, but the demo really didn’t do anything for me.

    sad this. agreed with Blerk. great concept, competent execution, many bad licenses. City Bomber kicks ass though ;p.

    although, they will probably change the dev for GR.

    Aww, this is Australia’s largest indie dev, the only other 2 devs in Australia i could think of is THQ Aus, (who i don’t think have done much, maybe some help in low grade game)& 2K Aus, (they brought us the 1st Bioshock teamed with 2K Marin).
    Also, the weird part about gaming in Australia, is that we pay an extra $40 than the US, & the current difference in the exchange rate is only a damn cent now! there are now no excuses why we pay 60-120% more for each game, some you can find for $90, but the rrp of a new game is $99-119 depending on whether or not it’s a triple AAA game (Halo, Gran Turismo, CoD) oddly enough, Naughty Bear cost $119 everywhere & didn’t go down for a few months, talk about rip-off =\

    The pitch: you’ll have your own customizable space wich you can fill up with all the classic arcade games and we’ll even work our way up to the glory days of the 90s.

    The reality: you’ll have your own customizable space wich you can fill up with shitty intellivission games and other garbage from the 70s nobody ever liked, not even back then.
    But Jeff Gerstman will spend hundreds of dollars on it and make amusing videos about how shit it all is.
