PEGI and ESRB may end up having an issue with Duke Nukem Forever

Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford said during a press event in London this morning he didn’t want any film taken of the Duke Nukem Trailer trailer being shown to the press, due to its rather racy content.

According to the studio boss, he didn’t want 2K “to be punished” for the studio’s “creativity”.

Per CVG, the trailer shown featured “bare breasts, strippers, gratuitous swearing, the word ‘fucking’ in massive letters and a giant alien getting pummeled in the genitals by Duke himself”, along with Duke “being pleasured” by two gals at once.

Sounds like a banging awesome trailer to us. We feel extremely deprived for not getting to see it.

Pitchford told attendees European and American ratings boards would likely “not approve” of what was shown. That and two bucks will get you a cup of coffee, ya know.

On the other end, according to GamerZines, Gearbox’s Steve Gibson said the developer is playing around with the idea of releasing the game on April 1, as a homage to the many delays the game has received, along with the massive amount of vaporware jokes.

Would be fitting, really. Gotta love Gearbox’s sense of humor.

Duke Nukem Forever is slated for release in 2011 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, and Gearbox has opened up a dialogue with retailers on honoring customer pre-orders made way back when.

I played it today and really enjoyed what I saw.

Could have been the free beer tho.
    Or the free food.
    Or that really hot waitress.

But seriously, good stuff! Randy was awsum, very geniune guy that came across really well.

That’s because you’re a KrazyKraut. You Krauts just don’t get the scandalous things about tits.

To be fair, if I was rating the game, I’d ban it for that sick blow to the bollocks by Duke.

I mean fair enough it’s an alien, but still a blow to another creature in the balls just ain’t right man.

Sigh, there will really be nothing in it that won’t have been seen before. PEGI are extremely unlikely to be bothered by anything. The ESRB might have something to say about sexual content which is their touchy subject but that’s about it.

What will have happened is Gearbox & 2K will have already run everything past the pair of them (and others like the BBFC) and wouldn’t dare put anything in there that would jeopardize an M rating anyway.

“Not approve” is bollocks. This is just a PR exercise which appears to have worked, given the coverage. Fair play to the Duke!

Er, the ESRB/PEGI probably won’t have a problem with the game (M/18), the issue’s with the trailer itself which (as far as I’m aware) has to be suitable for all audiences.

Having swearing and nudity and whatever in the game itself is fine, but I’m fairly sure you’re not allowed them in trailers, which is the issue.

@6 yeah thats right, but you should have been at the GamesCom…
there werent any public videos of Crysis 2, Dragonage 2, CoD, Fallout etc…not even on the EA Live Stage where the Dead Space 2 producer was….they only showed some pics..nothing more because of our stupid rating board. Lol….I think something is wrong with our gov when they ultra-ban (yeah we have to types of banning) a game like Condemned 2 or Wolfenstein with Swastikas.
