Gears of War 3 delayed to “fall 2011″, delay was a “business decision,” says Epic

Microsoft’s announced it’s delayed Gears of War 3 from an original April 8, 2011 launch, and will now release in “fall 2011.”

In a statement from MS, the publisher said the development team at Epic Games “have done great work thus far readying the title for release in the Spring of 2011.”

But it further added: “However, we’ve elected to move the launch of Gears of War 3 until Fall 2011 to make it the marquee title for the holiday season.”

According to a statement VG247 received from Epic Games, the move was “just a business decision” and was  “absolutely not a development slip”.

“I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decision between partners, and not a quality issue,” said executive producer Rod Fergusson. “Gears 3 was on track to be the most polished Gears of War game ever when it released in April, and this additional time allows us to polish it that much more before it hits shelves next fall.

“Next week, we have a major multiplayer press visit at Epic HQ, and I’m really looking forward to the fans getting to see and hear about Gears 3 Versus multiplayer for the first time. Lots more exciting news to come.”

According to a tweet from Mark Rein, the game will be released around the holidays, and “ there will be some nice silver linings inside this little cloud…some to be revealed next week”.

We’ll be waiting, then.

Gears of War 3′s Beast Mode is playable on the Eurogamer Expo showfloor this weekend.

    Dang it!!!!
I was so looking forward to this game!!!! AAGGGGG!!!! lol

Seriously. I have been waiting anxiously for this game. I was more excited for Gears3 then i was for Halo Reach and now i have to wait even longer!
Sad day, very sad day indeed.

Now i have to see the bright side of this news. Now i wont have to be worried about my wallet as much because this lightens up the load in the beginning 4 months of next year.

The first half of next year is looking pretty darned empty for Microsoft-published stuff now. Where are your exclusives, MS? You’re getting left behind.

Pretty much the ONLY remaining 360 exclusive I’m REALLY looking forward too. I can wait for perfection though.

No Gears of War 3 vs Killzone 3…. that’s shit. Now they can implent features from KZ3 to their own game and at the end of the year every one will cry GeoW3 is the better game.

And the packed Spring release schedule begins it’s steady crumble. Mildly interesting as it’s rare a MS exclusive gets a date and then gets pushed back. Well rarer than on the PS3 anyway.

Nah dude. They’ll both be equally great in different ways.

what i’ll do is play Killzone 3 from day1 till Gears3 launches and then i’ll play Gears 3 till the next PS3 or 360 exclusive launches.

well that sucks, but hopefully the game will be ever better then everyone hopes, wait…….read the article more closely MS delayed it for the purposes of making more money well like somebody said “greedy is good” but if your Microsoft it just makes you a cock

I was just about to say that but a bit less colorful :)

This was a business decision to make more money for the holiday season. Thats a terrible thing to admit really. O well.

Epic have Bulletstorm coming out in Feb so they wont want it overshadowing Gears.

I’m thinking this is a Microsoft decision rather than an Epic one. Looks like someone glanced down their ‘biggies’ list for next Christmas and decided that they didn’t have anything big enough.

I don’t know whether to applaud Microsoft’s honesty or to be sickened by their cold-hearted business nature.

Maybe you should go for applause, but with a sickened expression on your face? :D

theres abit of contradiction the statement. he says its a business issue, not cause of quality. then he says the extra time given will allow them to polish it ” much more” loll

    Stupid decision.

Interesting, what they have left for the next year? Only multiplatform titles?

Jeesh, fall? Thats a crazy delay. Blerk makes sense, MS probably looked at next years Xmas list and decided to shift stuff around.

From marketing standpoint thats a really good decision, because MS don’t have a lot and they can push a lot of marketing behind Gears franchise.

But Sony compared to MS always lack on that even if they have a lot to offer.

So basically what they’re saying is that they pissed on our spring happiness to try and drain more money from the Holiday season?

I find is both sad and amusing that a company can do shit like this and its fans will just bitch and moan a little and still gobble it up on release like good little doggies and then cry about how companies can get away with it.

Once more with feeling, you vote with your money, you sheeple.

That was pretty funny to read.

So does that mean you arent going to buy it then?

O_O well this is surprising especially after such a specified date!

This just highlights how poor MS has handled its exclusives now when apart from kinect all they have got is fable 3 and gears 3. Fucking great 2 sequels whoopie!

It wouldn’t even be as bad if their 3rd aprty exclusives didnt all defect in 8 months time. We can expect over 12 months then next year of no worthwhile exclusives from MS then -_-

so instead of kz3 vs gears 3 we’ll get R3 vs gears 3

    @21

    I agree to a certain degree…

But the problem with your statement is that it would require a mass organized event to actually get people to not buy a game because the company has done this or that.

So if just a few people decides to “NOT” buy a game because the company sux it’s not gonna make a diffrence.

Just take Modern Warfare 2 for example, shitloads of PC players protested and gave up the series to go and play some Bad Company 2.

Did this cause IW/Activision any trouble? No! Because there will always be more retards to fill in the gap of the few retards that dared step out of line.

@21 They’re delaying a videogame. I must have missed the part where it was something worthy of public outrage and an organized rebellion.
