SCEE brands LBP2 delay talk “rumour and speculation”

SCEE has refused to confirm or deny rumours of an impending LittleBigPlanet 2 delay this morning, which claimed overnight that the game won’t make 2010.

“We won’t comment on rumour or speculation,” said a rep by email.

PS3gen.fr ran a rumour yesterday, quoting a “source interne,” saying the game won’t ship this year.

A November 16 release has been confirmed for the US, but we’re still waiting on a firm Europe date.

A CE has also been announced for America, but, again, we’re still waiting for official confirmation of a Euro equivalent.

Alex Pavey, European product manager the game, has confirmed a premium edition will launch in Europe, but details are still being ironed out.

A European beta for the Media Molecule sequel is running now, with a US test promised for the coming weeks.

I’d like to think not. Going by what I’ve played of it, it’s absolutely promising.

Well it must be true. Surely Sony would come out and say this is bollocks.

I’d take SCEE’s words with a grain of salt. But since this game is technically published/controlled by SCEE rather than SCEA they should be more in the know. But who knows.

While I think it’s perfectly reasonable to come out in that period, they might want to give it more breathing space. Though pre-christmas is a good release time for a title like this.

It looks like this only affects Japan. The official date on the Japanese LBP 2 website has changed from November to 2011.

Or they just haven’t gotten around to changing the dates on the other sites yet.

That may be a possibility as well. Lets hope not. :)

@Syrok – I swear I saw the 2011 date in the TGS trailer as well.

Id rather it gets delayed tbh, GT 5 and Move will be Sonys main focus this Q4 so LBP 2 wont be the main focus of attention when it deserves to be.

Edit LBP 2 would still sell regardless but it will gain a few extra million if its not coming out the same time as COD and GT.

@JC: Yeah, I’ve just had a look at the trailer. It does say 2011 there as well. Wonder why they initially said November 2010 only to change it a few weeks later.

PS: Some European retailers have changed the release date on their website to 2011 as well

It could only be a technical issue to push it into 2011.

I’m sure Sony would like to stagger their 2011 catalogue, plus any game out sooner, is costing less money.

Sony published PS3 games look really overloaded in 2011. Not in the awesome way either.

Like in a – “How effective can your marketing be? How will you handle the physical distribution? Will you be maximising sales on each release?” – kinda way. The ‘kinda way’ being when all these questions are answered “Uhh, well, that’s okay right? We’ll be fine.”

It will be delayed. GT5,COD:BO, I said it before in a couple of stories back I think they should wait. GT5 is plenty enough for SONY and having it in the spring of next year is very great. All the kids can make cool levels during spring and summer break of next year.

    WHAAAAT!!!!
    NOOOO!!!
    WHYYYY!!
I’m not that surprised TBH xP , that delay’s probably due to the number of bugs they encountered and been reported to by the Beta testers..
if you think about it.. the release of the game is really close to its first announcement.. you can’t expect a perfect fixed game in this short time…?
still sad to hear this, though :(
