Stunning FFXIV HD CG trailer dropped for TGS

ffxiv7

Like. Wow.

Square just released an absolutely amazing CG trailer for FFXIV ahead of TGS’s kick-off tomorrow.

The video shows humans, roegadyn, elezen and miqo’te adventuring against swamp monsters and witnessing an epic, sky-based dragon battle. Seriously, it’s mental.

You can change the resolution to watch it at 720p at the base of the video.

The MMO releases for PC on September 30, with the CE going live on September 22.

A PS3 version is reconfirmed for a March release at the end of the trailer, as you’re about to see.

Check it out.

Now if they could only make games anywhere near as good as they make their CGI.

I wish they would stop doing that.

Thats just a cinima, a cut scene. We can’t play cut scenes. All it really showed me is that I find the art style way too JPnesse. The Not yet shaven hero. The girl with the ears and cat like face painting. The fact that they have Yugi type cards.

The VO were pretty good for this type of thing. The grapghics were very nice(again not gameplay mind you). But the whole of it shows me that SQE still doesn’t get it.

And that as a western gamer currently playing EQII Extended this isn’t something I have any interest in at this point.

I am much more interested in the in game footage. What type of questing systems the game has. How many races and classes. What types of skill trees. What kind of development customization the chars have.

You know the actual game.

Yet another pretty cinima, nice to look at. But yawn.

They did the samething for the last FF game on the PS3/xb360, mind blowing movies, and the game left a lot to be desiered.

Well that was just Fantastic. How much they spent on this trailer? And i agree with OG on that one,

but still, great cinematic trailer is a good PR move. A classic one that never fails.

Pretty as they are, I think it’s time for CG sequences in games to die. Games look good enough without them now.

I’d rather have one or two super-swish eye-popping trailers than some over orchestrated media / pr exersize spanning days or weeks exuding an overblown sense of self importance.

Those CG are good… but honestly, I have not seen a single satisfying video that shows how the game will be played… And that’s lame, in my opinion.

It’s like, back in the days, when we used to have a VERY beautiful artwork on the box of a SNES game… only to find how poor the game really was.

Showing CGI can make sense for FF13, as those cutscenes will ACTUALLY be part of the final game… but here ? At no point will you see this in the actual game, this is why I personally don’t care about that and want gameplay videos, come on !

It’s amazing what they can do with the Unreal Engine on iPhone now ;-) I look forward to the day when graphics like that are real-time.

Sadly after 20 minutes of playing the open beta my preorder for this game was canceled. I was running around in one of the starting areas with no idea how to get off the dock. Sure, something obvious was being missed, but there were a good 10-15 other people running in circles clueless as to what to do.

On top of that the controls just don’t do it for me anymore. As much as I was addicted to 11, I cannot give this game a fair chance. The combat, the running, navigating the menus, it all felt uncomfortable. Not to mention renaming all the races for no good reason just doesn’t make sense. Have the classes I had no idea wtf the name of the class was.

Too bad, I was really looking forward to this game.

Utterly spectacular – but as others have said: dude, where’s my game?

Damn if that’s not pretty…

(Can’t wait to see what Blizzard does with the Cataclysm intro too, should be good)

Looking forward to getting this game next week, installing it for hours, then coming to the conclusion my pc can’t run it… Well, at least I’ll have a “tumbler”, whatever the hell that is. :D

If only the actual game was as cool as this trailer.

If only the trailer reflected the game in any way.

Unfortunately the trailer is very representative of the game itself… it looks great, but the story “quests” are as interactive as that cutscene. You watch people talk. Beutiful people, yes. But you watch them. And that’s your story quest.
