Study: Action games help you make fast decisions

A study at the University of Rochester has found that playing action games trains players to make the correct decisions at a faster pace.
Non-gamer 18-to-25 year olds were split into two groups, with one set playing Call of Duty 2 and Unreal Tournament, and the other set playing The Sims 2.
After playing the games, the subjects were tasked with answering simple question about the game in as little time as possible: the action game players came up with accurate answers up to 25 percent faster than the second group.
Researcher Daphne Bavelier said games help players’ brains to more efficiently process visual and auditory information.
“It’s not the case that the action game players are trigger-happy and less accurate: They are just as accurate and also faster,” she said.
“Action game players make more correct decisions per unit time. If you are a surgeon or you are in the middle of a battlefield, that can make all the difference.”
Amazing. Thanks, 1UP.

Yeah, very brainy. It makes you more aggressive if you play a lot and thats it. + skill for the current game.
FPS is popular because it’s the easiest genre to master in gaming. It’s so easy that even children can play it. All you need is to have decent reflexes and know maps, thats it. If you play in the team, you need to learn how to communicate with it. If you play in the cybersport you need to learn with your team about the map and the strategy. Not a lot of brainwork is going on there, it’s just you need to remember what room have armor, packs and e.t.c. Thats not a brain much, as your reflexes (nearly instantaneous movement ).
When i was a high school student i played a lot of Unreal Tournament and was at the team. Cybersport is awesome, but not much time i have when i went to the university. Good times. But our team was awesome, we won a lot and i still have two friends from my fav team

For people who have played a lot throughout their lives, it certainly helps in the development of cognitive ability. It doesn’t make you ‘smarter’ (unless, of course, it’s a game based on historical events where it’s a fun and interactive history lesson.) It helps you to become a more strategic thinker, as well.

Erthazus. Never mind that this was a properly conducted test with control groups, you know better because of your experience in ‘cybersport’? Cybersport? Really? I mean really? You’re like an iron curtain comic book guy from the Simpsons. It’s so funny when you spout your endless drivel, when you are clearly the least credible person in the northern hemisphere.
Have you ever seen a woman naked? I mean a real one, in the same room, still breathing? I sincerely hope not, because you are clearly a genetic dead end and god help us if you manage to breed.

Massive lag, i don’t care if someone at university made a research for two teams in short period of time, all i know is that from my experience that Action games don’t help you make fast decisions, except for the game. After playing games you are aggressive and slow sometimes from MY experience and not only mine.
I doubt that you know what is cybersport at all, stating things like “really” “what”? So please shut up if you don’t know on this subject nothing.
“Have you ever seen a woman naked?”
Like two years already. Massive Lag, Next question?

From your experience? So essentially your experience is made up of playing ‘cybersport’ with a bunch of other spotty nerds who should move out of their mother’s house and get a real job? That’s what you’re basing your statement on? Hmm, well I think it’s fair to say that I trust a team of research scientists over a semi-literate nerd, who believes his experience playing e-sports gives him licence to disparage a study that he knows nothing about.
And wow, you saw a naked woman two years ago. You must be the envy of all your peers. Actually if you have seen a naked woman, and having a fair guess of who your peers would be, then you probably are.
Oh, and I like the ‘Massive Lag’ take on my name. In truth it’s you that is lagging behind; on the rest of the human race…. As I said, please try to avoid breeding. Mind you, given that you probably very rarely see sunlight your sperm count is non existent, and what little of it you do have is probably wasted in your gym sock whilst masturbating furiously over your screensavers of WoW Night Elves. Thank heavens for small mercies eh?

Interesting, is this the UofR in my backyard(NY State) or something in the UK?
Just wondering.

OG. I’m not sure. It’s been covered quite heavily in the UK press, so I immediately thought it was the UK. I didn’t realise there was a Rochester in the States.

Because you are naive and infantile little kid that believes everything what he reads on the internet. Oww… What a poor little guy
“And wow, you saw a naked woman two years ago.”
Maybe you should go to school to learn properly read the sentence?
“Like two years already” – a small hint, because i don’t think so that your brain is capable of finding that sentence.
“Mind you, given that you probably very rarely see sunlight”
Oh, shi… You found my true self. I’m a VAMPIRE!
You are lagging too much. Too much lag.
you need a lot of help from a doctor.

Well I don’t know about anyone else, but I read the report first in a respected national newspaper before reading the article on the University’s internet site. How else would you expect me to find it out? By carrier pigeon perhaps?
“Maybe you should go to school to learn properly read the sentence?”
Perhaps if you’d made yourself clear in the first place? Perhaps some extra schooling is needed on your part? I guess the extent of the curriculum in your communist gulag didn’t quite cut it? I speak English; “Like two years already”, doesn’t constitute a coherent sentence.
The reason you don’t see sunlight is not because you were a vampire, if only you were that interesting. It stems from the fact that you are a spotty, adolescent (at least mentally), nerd, who has nothing better to do than sit in his parents basement, eating instant noodles whilst spewing forth vitriol at all who don’t agree with you. Like you’re someone that we should have the slightest respect for?
Do you have a mirror in your house? Take a good, long look at yourself. The acne, the stained Star Wars t-shirt, the pasty complexion – and realise that no one gives a damn whether you live or die. You might as well end it all now, go on do it, do the world a favour and stop taking up oxygen.
