BioWare reveals Mass Effect 2 stats

masseffect218

Did you know that the most-played class in Mass Effect 2 is Soldier, more so then any other class combined? No? Did you know that only two PC players finished it 28 times and it was completed 23 times by four players on 360? You do now.

IGN‘s posted up some interesting stats on the BioWare RPG, which shows that half of players imported a save over from Mass Effect 1.

Why the stats? It’s to help the developer get its shit together for Mass Effect 3 and any other sequels, obviously. Not that it ever needs to get it together, to be honest.

“The only data that we get are in terms of events — little things that happen in the game,” explained series producer Casey Hudson.

“Let’s say if we want to know whether players skip lines of dialogue, we can have that become a little event that gets sent up. It’s all completely anonymous, so all we get is raw numbers for how many times these kinds of events occur.”

Hudson said these stats are only used for building games from the ground up, so don’t expect feedback to be going into DLC, like the release of Lair of the Shadowbroker today, or the PS3 port of the game next year.

“There are some things regarding difficulty and weapons and things like that and those are easier to tune, but there won’t be a huge opportunity to include this stuff for the PS3 version,” he said.

“It’s about how you design a game from the ground up.”

There’s a whole lot more through the link.

I want to go back and play again but I sold my copy! :(

Will pick up the PS3 version for sure.

I am a bit apprehensive however, my Shepard has been with me since the first game, I feel like I’ve shaped her (yes, HER) story and I’m not sure I like the idea of having another character.

I’ll have to buy ME3 on 360 and PS3!

I installed both discs and all the freebie DLC last night before bed so that I was ‘good to go’ straight away tonight.

Mr. Reeves?

I couldn’t install both disks on my measly 20gb drive; Which made the disk swapping very tiresome.

Normally I wouldn’t mind, but the two swaps + 3 installs and deletes were frustrating!

Are any of the ‘paid for’ DLCs actually worth the cash?

@8

Shadow Broker looks it, i’m not sure about the others.

The free DLC via the ‘bought new’ code is pretty substantial though.

Yeah, I downloaded about a gig of extras for ‘nothing’ last night. Nice!

I will probably get banned for this. :)
But here goes anyway.
I completed Mass 1 and found it boring actually.
I have to admit I have only managed to finish one other rpg which was Fallout 3.
I just dont get them tbh.
I mean the amount of stuff you have to do is mind boggling.
I eventually just played the main missions to get through it.

I did start another playthrough as something else to see would it be different but I started playing the same missions again.
Twice actually as the first time I kept my points and character to get some achievements.

Before anyone says anything this is just my opinion and not a reflection on the game in anyway.
I just don’t get rpg games.

Any one else feel the same?

Well I can attest to the fact I saw you with my own eyes putting in crazy hours playing that game (sure most of it was during elevator rides :D ) but you have always been a voice of reason Reask so I think your judgment is solid for people who feel the same way about RPGs. if you don’t generally like them don’t waste your time at all.

A lot of hours go into RPGs that you can’t get back in life. It sucks even more when you pour 40+ hours into the game only to not like it at the end.

@13 Mass Effect 2 may be for you then reask.

It severely cuts back on a lot of ‘traditional’ WRPG elements. It’s far more streamlined (to it’s detriment in my opinion) and is easier to comprehend.

There isn’t a ton of inventory stuff to manage. There isn’t a ton of stats to keep an eye on, or abilities to level. You’ll have your starting abilities and gain an additional one during the game (if memory serves).

It’s a fantastic game but if you like micro-management like me it’s a tad frustrating. For you though it should be great!

@13 – i understand what you mean entirely reask. I only really got into rpgs myself this gen actually and even then i am quite selective (no jrpgs and no fantasy so that cuts out about 80% of all rpgs ever made then >_>)

I enjoyed mass effect 1 at the time but i never thought it was great or anything BUT ME2 caught me totally off guard it was ****ing awesome! It is alot lighter on rpgs elements, focuses more on action and overall streamlines the whole game. I recommend you try out the demo of ME2 or something to get a taste of it.

Also i thought FO3 was enjoyable but massively overrated (up there with RDR and infamous imo). hurray i’m being controversial ;)

Well reask, I love some rpgs. But not the kind of ones that most people do. I do not enjoy a structured tight story line based one that leads you by the hand, making you jump thro hoops in order to advance the plot and story lines.

I don’t like ME games, didn’t enjoy Oblivion, Fallout, or most anything labeled Jrpg.

I enjoy rpgs were I have the freedom to do what I want. I love MMO and open world(and no Fallout3 isn’t the same thing) rpgs. I enjoyed Sacred 2, alot. I enjoyed WoW. I am currently loving EQII Extended(the f2p one).

Most console rpgs, to me, are complete crap.

Jrpgs turn me off with their jouvenile heros and reused plots.

Bioware and Bethseda(sp?) both stick to there formulas, and it is one that I don’t enjoy.

The biggest rpg on my radar is Guild Wars 2. I have high hopes for that one.

Just wished a few MMORPGS would grace the consoles. I had a lot of fun with EQ OA(PS2) and PSO/PSU(GC/XB/XB360). But they don’t so I stay on the PC.

I reckon Halo Reach next onlineatron. :)
Mindless shooting without the hassle. :D
Yeah Tea had a few days off so decided to finish it to see what I thought.
Thanks OG but my pc wouldn’t run pac man let alone any decent sized game :) so I will stick to the mindless games for a tad longer.
We will have to get Tea a gold sub between us and do some Reach co-op. :D

I’d love to have a few rounds with Tea! But the funny parts is I have a feeling that we(as a family) will be migrating to the PS3. I just have to draw the line somewhere, and the LIVE Gold increase looks like it is my line.

We have three xbl gold mems in the house.

Thats 180usd/year.

We could get another PS3 for just a little more and never pay for Live again.

Strongly considering it. Esp scince one of our xb360 is developing an audio issue.

I think at the very least we will be droping down to just one gold. Like I said I do play more and more on PC now then I used to.

The new Gold ‘family pack’ thing should work out cheaper for you shouldn’t it, OG? Not cheap enough though, I suspect – time to ban the kids from playing online. :-)

@ 16
I must check out the demo then as you seem to be in the same camp as me.
I actually wasn’t aware there was a demo on live.

I spent hours and hours just wandering around Fallout 3.
I mean there was so many places to go in it.
I would start out doing one thing and then get lost and coming across enemies that I would have to defeat in order to get back to where I wanted to be.
I just kept getting lost in it but I did enjoy it and was happy I played it.
I didn’t enjoy Mass effect as much as it although in all fairness I spent much less time on it.

Blerk I would love to hear more about the Gold Family plan but it seems the news has died off about it. I thought it was ‘possed to be out this fall, was ‘possed to run 100usd for upto four systems. I read you could share DLC between systems, all sounds good.

But I haven’t seen much of it recently.

“Any one else feel the same?”

yes, here.
i never realy got into rpgs. one of the best games ive ever played was Secret of mana (3player coop for the win) and thats propably it. i just dont get attracted by the likes of ie. fallout, dragon age, oblivion and thos stuff. Never realy tried a JRPG at all, cant stand their style…

but i will propably get my handes on ME2 for PS3. i realy like scifi/space settings and what ive read the rpg elemts are cut back a good bit.

Older: Sacred was superb, but i dont count that as an RPG. its a diablo clone, its looting, slashing and farming :D ive sunk 200+ hours into it.
i guess u havent played the ps3 version (console versions are suprisingly good in terms of controlling all your actions. the devs did a good job on that) otherwise i would let u know that my allmighty lvl 112 shadow warrior would rip u into pieces ;)
