Enslaved – Get your questions answered by Ninja Theory

enslaved4

It looks awesome, it’s out next month, it’s gone Gold and it’s just gotten an 86 percent from GamesMaster.

Enslaved. It’s coming. What do you want to know about it?

We’ve already spoken to developer Ninja Theory about the game twice this year, once in Barcelona during a pre-E3 Namco bash and once in Brighton during Develop.

But what do you guys want to know about the game? Stick your questions in the comments below, and we’ll cherry pick the best to get answered by NT.

Sadly, unlike our MS community interviews, there are no prizes this time. Unless you count ego-boosting as a prize. In which case, push for the win.

We’ll stop taking questions by the end of play this Friday.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West launches in the UK on October 8 for PS3 and 360.

Enslaved marks the second time they’ve worked with Andy Serkis, after a great relationship on Heavenly Sword. After a great relationship working with Alex Garland on this, will they be working with him again in future.

Releasing the same day as Castlevania, that’s a bit silly innit?

You have said that you didnt make any money on Heavenly Sword so how much does Enslaved need to sell for a sequel to be greenlit?

Releasing a AAA new IP in the current gaming market is incredibly risky these days. What do you guys need to break even on this project and what sets this game above the pack that will get people to notice it?

Would you describe Enslaved’s gameplay as runny-jumpy-climby-fighty? If so, DAY ONE PURCHASE!

Castlevania: LoS and Enslaved come out together, and they’re the same type of game. Why do you think people should go for Enslaved over LoS?

What do you believe to be Enslaved’s main competition on the market (either right now, or in the coming months)?

Releasing the same day as Castlevania: LoS, are you fucking mental?

Have you tried everything humanly possible to get your game in the shops a week earlier?

If not….

Are you like a bunch of masochists?

(obviously not a question for the devs)

I don’t quite get this idea that Castlevania is going to be a billion selling blockbuster. It looks passable and the franchise enjoys some success, but hardly enough to warrant hiding from it. Especially as every 3D version of it has tanked.

How did you feel when you found out Castlevania: LoS was releasing on the same day?

:)

seriously, just ask them 10 Castlevania related questions

What was it like for the development team to switch from Ps3 to multiplatform?

Is this running on an updated version of the engine used for Heavenly Sword? If so how much has changed during that time with it?

Enslaved looks amazing, what kind of inspirations helped the game become what it is today?

Can they hint at any easter eggs we may get to find? be awesome if we could spot the Heavenly sword covered in moss during play, etc. :)

@Hunam

I’ve read a few previews of Castlevania, and it honestly sounds a cut above your usual hack and slash. I got the impression a lot of people were surprised at how good it was, i’m betting it’ll review better then this.

I also think beating up robots with a stick in ultra colourfull environments isn’t gonna appeal to the average COD player

why is this game better than heavenly sword -what´s fresh here?

why should i be excited about enslaved? (because i am not that much right now…)

how long will it be?

what kind/type of gamers are you mainly aiming at with this ip?

The Hindle

@ 16, The new Castlevania will probably piss off the fans but will probably bring in loads of new people who have never played the IP to make up for it.

@18 I can’t find the source, but I am 100% sure that Sony owns the rights to the tools and technology in Heavenly Sword, as with the IP itself.

My question(s) to ask Ninja Theory would be;

What did your experience in developing exclusively for Playstation 3 with Heavenly Sword help you in the development of Enslaved for PS3, as we all know the Xbox 360 is much easier to develop for?

MLAA is now in the PS3 SDK, has Ninja Theory employed this Anti-Aliasing solution for Enslaved, or if not what AA solution if any is employed?

Unrelated to Enslaved#

Would you ever consider developing a new title for Heavenly sword franchise, now the PS3 install-base is much larger?

What inspires you to work on new IPs instead of creating sequels?

It’s a bold move in a market dominated by brand recognition, one that I respect immensely; So I’m eager to know what drives a studio with such integrity.

1. Are there any other melee weapons besides the staff?
2. How many melee combinations are there with the staff and any other melee weapons?
3. Do we get to solve puzzles when playing as Trip if we get to play as trip?
4. Does Trip have any ability to control NPCs to give Monkey an upper hand in heated situations?
5. Does Monkey have any timing based counterattacks with his melee weapons?
6. Are there alternate costumes for the Trip and Monkey?
7. Is there a new game plus after completing the game?
8. Are there any stealth kills?
9. Is there any combat while platforming?

@45 – they still get money from rentals so no

tho if you buy it used namco representatives will bash in your door, drop kick you in the face and then steal their “rightful” $60

How long is the game relative to Heavenly Sword?? Because despite Heavenly Sword being pretty cool, it was bloody short.

#50

AHA-Lambda
06/09/10, 6:51 pm

@48 – because lovefilm have to buy the copies from namco instead of you buying from gamestation who bought it from namco. As they are a rental service tho and the rental copies are intended for multiple people, they cost a much higher premium to lovefilm than to someone like gamestation. Thats how it balances out, or at least thats how its supposed to, companies like EA still wont sto bitching about rentals as if they were like used games.

Also high five for lovefilm, its awesome! :D
