Killzone 3 gets Move demo footage

Some new footage of Killzone 3 being controlled by PlayStation Move has came out of PAX. Get it below.
As you can see from the videos below, IGN tested out the shooter with Move, showing how you control your character with a combination of the Nav controller, the Dualshock and the controller itself.
Looking good, soldier.
Killzone 3 was dated last night for a February 22 release in North America. No date yet for Europe.

I’ll play it with DS3 only then with Move and the Nav to get a different experience.

Really fed up with seeing the snow gameplay.
It’s odd, when they announced KZ3 Guerilla Games, talked about jungle environments, space environments and more. I worried that they were giving away everything about the game too soon (with the first game GG showed the last level on an episode of Playr, and the nuke was allowed to be shown during previews/reviews). But now they are showing nothing bar the snow level!
I doubt I’ll ever understand games marketing/PR.

Thats just horrible. Auto-Aim? Of course. Without it you can’t shoot the thing so easily.
So Move as the Mouse alternative? No way. I thought that with Move, the screen will move in the direction you point, but here you move the cursor of your gun. Sad. Thats just different experience and i don’t think so that it is worth it.

I’m interested in Move a lot, have it ordered. But not so much with titles like this. I’ll give it a go though obviously. Why Epic Mickey and that new Harry Potter game aren’t on PS3/Don’t use Move is beyond me. Those games seem perfect.

I wonder if he believe the whole ‘people find the dualshock difficult’ shtick, or if he’s been told to say it.
I do like that the cursor turns red whilst on helghast. I always found it a bit of a hassle aiming in the first, so that should aid me somewhat.

hmm, i’m intrigued on this now, it doesn’t look too bad, in fact he was actually quite damn accurate, thought the controller would have moved the cam though, not the actual gun so that has surprised me, but they have made it work by the look of it, tho turning looks to be a problem..

Having the controller directly move the camera wouldn’t make any sense as you’re playing in a 3D environment. Your view would be locked to about 120° and you’d be unable to turn around without having that mapped to a button.
The bounding box — the threshold at which the pointer starts ‘pushing’ the screen — is ridiculously large in that demo, I can’t imagine many people playing it like that. At the very least you’re going to want turning speed to be exponentially increased over that in the videos.

I don’t like the way the move is used, why simply don’t use it as a mouse?

@9 Well that guy says that they’re looking to make the box an option people can edit.
@2 They have shown artwork of some on the other environments.

@10
indeed, no idea why they’ve decided to let the Move only control the cross-hair and not the whole camera.

Lets not forget that this is all preliminary beta stuff at the moment. They’re obviously going to tweak it (and provide personal options to alter it yourself) before release.

@17 thats a good excuse for him. But if we are going to turn around like this, it’s an absolute failure.
+ Auto-Aim is the absolute cheat.

I really would have liked Sony to have put an analog stick on the main Move controller. I think Wii FPS titles clearly demonstrated that the lack of buttons wasn’t the only problem fitting a this sort of controller into this type of game. There are still advantages, but what you gain in accuracy and speed on stuff which is central to your view, you lose with turning issues.

@19 An analogue stick on the Move controller itself would feel horrible, dude.
Think about it. You’d be aiming the reticle with the right / left hand, which you’re also holding it with your other hand to move your character around. Your two hands would basically be fighting each other for control!

Nah, the two sticks would be used as they are now in a controller fps. Left stick move, right stick look. The aiming of the move wand could then be free within the view you currently have. The problem without a second stick is that you end up trying to do too much with the pointer. It should be restricted to the view you are in.

An analogue stick would provide more versatility when it comes using two move controllers at once.
The best utilisation of the Move controller I’ve seen is in Sports Champions Gladiators and Archery. Using two controllers to perform those actions looks really immersive, however it’s hindered by the inability to move around; An analogue stick could remedy this.

It’s easy to see why there isn’t one included. It’s to avoid over complicating the looks of the controller and scaring away the casuals. Just from a more core perspective I can see a lot of uses for it.

@22 Oh right. Good point. I assumed you meant using only one Move controller, but if you’re using two, that would definitely work.

@28 Yeah sorry that wasn’t clear from what I said initially.
Just watched the vids now – was browsing with iPad and no flash support before
. The auto aim stuff is a bad compromise. It needs to just switch to an any movement will make you turn mode. The whole idea of zooming in is greater precision – that’s lost if it auto stickies to the target. How would you do headshots etc?
In more general use it looked very nice and accurate – though there was a little too much wandering without changing view – walking up stairs whilst facing slightly sideways etc. Just because it is easier than adjusting the view. The options to alter the middle zone they discussed would help find a happy medium for that though.
