Rumour: Dead Space 2 features necromorph versus “soldiers” multiplayer

deadspace25

A Gamestop conference yesterday apparently dropped details on a Necromorphs versus “soldiers” multiplayer mode for Dead Space 2.

This GamerNode report (thanks, Joystiq) says the mode will consist of “deathmatch-style combat” and will be one of several multiplayer modes included in the game early next year.

The piece also claims that pre-orders will come with a free download of Dead Space: Ignition. If you pre-order it at GameStop, you’ll allegedly get another bonus: a rivet gun.

None of this is confirmed, obviously, but we’ve known for some time that Dead Space 2 would include multiplayer.

The last mention of it was back in June, when EA boss John Riccitiello said the game’s online systems would be “innovative”.

Online multiplayer-related news was out on the sequel as far back as November last year.

sigh

Do you think one day a games single player campaign and it multiplayer component will be purchasable separately…that would be a good day

Sounds like a cool idea to me. They just need to balance it properly, it would be lame if the necromorphs couldnt even reach the soldiers because of their ranged weapons (see AvP).

It could be quite cool if they did it sort of like left 4 dead with the Soldiers having to get across the map and th players using necromorphs can can travel through the vents to ambush them etc. Could even have some more basic necromorphs controlled by AI too acting like the zombies in L4D and players control slightly bigger ones like the special infected

It’d pretty much have to work like L4D or it’d be totally one sided.

I didn’t play much of Dead Space, are there enemies with “special” abilities a la the special infected in L4D? Or will you pretty much be reliant on bursting out of vents unexpectedly? (which of course becomes very much expectedly after the 1st couple of times)

They should forget about multiplayer and concerntrate on coop. People are more likely to appreciate it and their isn’t much out there for coop survival horror.

Red flags for me.

If you’re playing as soldiers but use the mining tools, the fiction will be shattered. However, if you’re playing as soldiers with normal weapons (machine guns etc) then you’re just playing any other TPS MP game.

I hope it’ll include a horde mode.horde would be perfect for deadspace and especially now since the setting is a city.
