Alice: Madness Returns won't go "OTT" for M rating, says McGee

Alice: Madness Returns won't be going "over the top" with gore and blood "for the sake of getting an M rating", creator American McGee's told Eurogamer.

He told the site he would instead be going for "adult" and "mature" topics.

"No, no no no. This is definitely an M-rated title," he said.

"The first Alice, we never set out to get an M-rating. It was more about trying to be true to the fiction that we created from the well known books."

He later added: "But, that being said, we're not trying to go over the top and use blood and gore and violence just for the sake of getting an M rating. This will be an M title, but it's going to be in the sense of mature, adult content, not over the top violent, horror content."

The original Alice, was published ten years ago by EA, who are back on publishing duties for Madness Returns, which was unveiled during EA's publisher showcase back in July.

The game's out in 2011 for PS3, 360 and PC.
