Report – Rocksteady confirms multiplay for Batman: Arkham City

arkham city

According to a post on fansite ArkhamCity.co.uk, Rocksteady’s confirmed to PSM3 that Batman: Arkham City will feature multiplayer.

The developer didn’t detail how it would work, though.

Rocksteady’s last attempt at multiplayer was eight-player online in Urban Chaos for PS2 and Xbox.

Very little on the game has been mentioned; it was only announced last month.

Arkham City launches next year for PS3, 360 and PC.

If it’s shit, we don’t want it.

Take a leaf from Ken Levine with Bioshock: Infinite, *tinker* with the multiplayer by all means, but don’t include it if it doesn’t make any sense from a quality perspective.

I don’t think so that this game need a multiplayer stuff.

This is like God Of War 3 or any other slashing game.

is Arkham City the direct sequel to Arkham Asylum? or is there going to be an Arkham Asylum 2 & this is a seperate game?…

I want it to work, if it makes sense for it to be there in the first place; instead of just being tacked on for ‘added value’.

yeh depends how they bring it into the game, maybe via Robin but not in the way they did Batman and Robin.
Or deathmatch Batman Vs Joker type, so instead of AI, other players can be the henchmen and have to find Batman etc.

@5 It’s a direct sequel. It wouldn’t make much sense to call it Arkham Asylum 2 if its not set in the asylum.

Anyway, this is… surprising. I’m remain cautiously optimistic for now.

I would prefer it if they just made the single-player even longer. That way, it keeps its re-playability, and it’s still awesome.

@5, it’s a direct sequel, if you played AA then you’ll remember the place got pretty badly fucked up, the Asylum has been moved to the city, hence Arkham City.

Co-op of some sort would seem to make most sense.

Could work well. My concern isn’t Rocksteady developing a form of multiplayer that works well for Batman, it’s that the hordes focused on fast paced, simple combat only online MP will reject it if it’s (as it probably should be) strategic, slower and more paced to the world of Batman.

Splinter Cell, back on PC, had some great MP but it really required a different focus and a lot more patience, something that even in SP developers seem to feel the average gamer doesn’t have anymore.

I don’t know guys but Rocksteady has surprised us before. If they pull this off they will be put in the prestige league of developers. Lets just hope they make it work.

Well judging from the Game Informer cover, it’ll be (hopefully optional) co-op Batman and Catwoman. Who knows about anything else, but at least that sounds promising.

Yeah… Robin was put into the comics just to Batman not being shut up. Catwoman IS a dark and good character like Batman, hot and crazy. I hope you can split screen and coop with her… BUT KEEPING the essence. If it’s shit like somebody here said… Take it out.

My guess is also co-op with Catwoman and/or a Batman vs thugs mode.
