Open source jailbreak released for PS3

ps3slim6

Oh dear. Another PS3 jailbreak, known as PSGroove, has been released.

Seen as an easier alternative to PS Jailbreak, PSGroove can easily be downloaded and transferred onto a USB dev key.

We’re not going to link to it. Guess why.

According to DF, the new addition can be “injected into the PS3 to re-route Blu-ray traffic to either the internal hard drive or an external device have been removed – this means that the ability to play ‘back-up’ games simply isn’t possible in the open source version of the hack, although there is nothing to stop the less scrupulous swapping in the original PSJailbreak payload.

“Secondly, the developers have removed code found in the original Jailbreak that locks up the console if the dongle is removed, meaning it is safe to remove the homebrew version of the device whenever you want.”

The creator of the original PS Jailbreak had warned previously the software was copied and urged people to buy the original.

Great news that the backup related functionality has been removed. Now lets see some top notch homebrew!

@2 I would love to see some good homebrew and emulators, but sadly it will be used as a device to help people pirate software and nothing more.

You really think there will be no homebrew just because it can also be used to pirate? Doesn’t really gel with what happened with the Wii, PSP, Xbox. The 360 is a slightly different story, but then only a handful of people can do the proper hack on that one (rather than the dvd flashing for piracy).

Piracy just started already. *I removed the site where you can download games*

some games are already available for the download, except that people still have a lot of problems using PS3 jailbreak and other stuff.

You could find PS3 games on torrent sites ever since the console released. I wouldnt count torrent sites as being a good way to check up on piracy for PS3.

The “back-up feature” was already re-added in another version of the code, unfortunately for sony.

@3 I would love to see some good pirated and free games, but sadly it will be used as a device to help people install stupid and useless homebrew

ehm…folks…THE STICK DOES NOT PLAY DUMPS, OR MAKE ISOS…read at the site what the programmer wrote:

“This software is not intended to enable piracy, and such features have been disabled. This software is intended to allow the execution of unsigned third-party apps and games on the PS3.”

Do you know why it’s OPEN SOURCE ?
because I’ve seen on hacking site that enabling games from being played from HDD requires only one line of code.
so, expect modification that enables piracy in the next few days.

I’d love to be able to run emulators of Turbo Duo stuff, Neo Geo stuff, and more recent like Saturn and Dreamcast.

I would even go so far as to pay for a legit one like the stuff on the Wiis VC.

But in truth, most of that type of stuff is already out in spades for the PC.

Homebrew is nice, but lets be honest that is not going to be the crux of this issue.

It is going to be about downloading PS2, PS3, and Movies/TV shows.

And really it was only a matter of time from day one.

could using something like this enable playback of PS2 games? if so Sony should endorse an altered version of this & start selling full ps2 games on their network, i see no reason why they have not already

@Crysis:

No, it’s not as simple as that. The US and Japan PS3′s at launch had two hardware pieces of the PS2 included, which were used to play PS2 games (a fully hardware solution).

The EU PS3 (at launch) had one of those two included, while using software emulation for the second (half hardware, half software solution).

At some point (before the PS3 slim) all PS2 hardware pieces were removed from all SKU’s, in order to reduce the cost, so the only way for Sony to offer PS2 games would be a fully software solution.

why get rid of the link? it isn’t doing anything.
no one is modifing anything, this software is like a virus that exploits the ps3.
