Waiting to see what the promised Kinect features in Fable III are going to look like? You might want to start re-evaluating your time management.

Peter Molyneux dropped a clear hint in a gamescom interview today that Kinect features will never be included in Fable III, despite promises to the contrary.

The Lionhead boss refused to directly answer the question of whether or not motion gestures will be included in the game, but it was clear from his comments that it’s not looking so positive right now.

VG247: When are we going to see the Kinect functionality?

Peter Molyneux: Kinect is an interesting one. I mean, I love Kinect. And this is me as a designer. Forget the fact that I’m employed by Microsoft, and they’d probably lynch me if I said anything negative about Kinect. But I do sincerely, truly love Kinect. It’s a very, very different world. It feels like when the mouse was invented for the PC. There’s before the mouse and there’s after the mouse. So I love Kinect; I love Fable. But guess what: do we… The Fable experience through a controller that we fully understand takes at least two years. When you’ve invented something that’s as new and different as Kinect, it’s going to take a bit longer than six months.

And that’s your answer. We could have done some trivial, gimmicky thing for Fable, some side, gimmicky thing, but I don’t think it’s the right thing. If we’re going to do something with Kinect on Fable it should be brilliant. It should be as good as it can be.

VG247: Is there going to be Kinect functionality in Fable III?

Peter Molyneux: I love Kinect; I love Fable III.

Molyneux previously stated Kinect support would be patched into Fable III once the controller hit the market, which is a few weeks after the game launches.

Fable III will hit the market on October 26 in the US and October 29 in the UK.

Molyneux often gets criticised for over-promising so you can’t really have too much of a go at him when he gets a bit coy.

That said, after reading this article I can’t help thinking that ‘facepalm’ would be an appropriate Kinnect function in Fable 3.

So basically they haven’t figured out how to implement it in a worthwhile manner.

If the head of MGS Europe can’t work it out, how the fuck is anyone else?
