Dragon Age 2 gets a date and awesome video

da2

EA has confirmed the release date for Dragon Age 2, which will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

The sequel to the popular fantasy RPG will be released on March 8 in US and March 11 2011 in the UK.

Dragon Age 2’s story will last ten years of game time, and revolves around Hawke, “a penniless refugee who rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age.”

Bioware has also promised “the way you play will write the story of how the world is changed forever.”

Only almost half a year to wait then.

Watch the awesome CGI video shown at the presser below.

Still no news of a ‘bumper pack’ of the original?

March really is the new Christmas with games isn’t it? Suppose it’s all down to getting them out before the end of the financial year.

How long did they really spend developing this? I’m kinda fearing that they’re gonna stick us with some kind of shitty “lite” product like Mass Effect 2.

Time will tell I suppose, but Dragon Age was a 60 hour game, can they really top that in just a couple of years?

@3 Usually it’s March/November with a few smaller bursts put in between. November is because that’s when the Americans start their xmas shopping. I’m not sure about March, but summer is obviously a lousy time for videogames.

That was some really bad-ass Trailer.

@DSB: I bet the began development way before the first one was released. At least i hope so.

@6 Yeah, that’s what I’m hoping. I’m just a little confused because the last “behind the scenes” showed the game in something that looked a lot like pre-alpha.

I guess they could’ve been using an early build.

Dragon Age was done back in April last year for the PC and then EA wanted the PC and Console version to be out at the same time so Bioware gave the console port to a third party company to develop while they started working on the sequel to Dragon age 2. So they had more than enough time to create the sequel.
Its using an updated version of the Dragon age engine so the hardest art is over. Look at Mass Effect 2 came out within two years after the release of the original and the third one coming out next year.

You know whats great about this game at least from what I have read, it will not be just a straight forward go kill the archdemon. You will be playing as a Warden that flee Loithering when it was being attacked meaning Hawke will be out and about while your character is killing darkspawn and Archdemon so the story will focus solely on Hawke and his story over a 10 year period. TO me that shows so much potential than just killing the big bad.

@8 Yeah, I figured they have the engine down. It’s just the sheer ammount of content that was in Dragon Age. All the dialogue, events, enemies, levels. I have a hard time making it add up, but they can probably use a lot of assets from the original.
