Think Kinect’s going to bomb when it releases? One analyst reckons you’re all naysayers.

Lazard Capital Markets’ Colin Sebastian has said in a note he expects the camera will sell 2 million units per month from the time it launches in November until the end of the year.

That’s 4 million units, in case you can’t count.

“Our checks indicate that the Kinect build is on a pace of ~2M units per month,” said Sebastian, “and we now believe that the mix of Xbox 360 shipments for the holidays will be more heavily weighted toward the Kinect bundle.

“As such, we are increasing our Kinect unit sales expectations for Q4 to 4 million worldwide, up from 3 million units previously.”

He admitted it was expensive on its own at $150/£130, adding potential buyers may find better value in the hardware bundles planned by Microsoft.

Sebastian feels a $99 price-point would be the kickstart to possibly even bigger sales.

Kinect launches on November 4 in the US, with a European date expected on Tuesday at Microsoft’s gamescom press conference.

Also, expect details on a new Kinect-enabled Firmware update in Germany, which will feature a new boot-up to the console.

Thanks, GameSpot.

I think any estimate positive or otherwise is bullshit until the public have actually seen what it can do.

There are a lot of people out there with dust smothered Wii consoles mouldering under the tv who probably aren’t all that keen to blow more cash on another unproven motion control system.

The casuals already have their Wii and as proven, they don’t care about HD and all that stuff,so they will be content with their Wii.

Existing 360 owners for the most part either don’t care about Kinect or are put off by the price tag,lag and the fact it has no games you can’t get similar of elsewhere and for much cheaper.

I can see 4-5 mil lifetime over the next few years but it will be a slow process with the current price tag and line-up of games and limitations putting people off.

Wii owners arent going to buy more kit, that basically does the same as the Wii..

    I predict a fail.

Saying that, im tempted by Move, the Socom videos look pretty awesome. As does that game with the sword and shield, not sure what its called?
