CoD: Black Ops gets multiplayer trailer, full reveal coming September 1

blackops

Boom. Activision’s just released the first multiplayer trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Simply put, it looks awesome. With a stick.

New weapons, new gears, even RVs. And there’s a tease at the end of a video editor mode to put together your best bits.

So. When are we going to hear more on multiplayer? September 1, according to the trailer.

Just an inkling: you might want to stick with us once the full reveal does come blasting.

Call of Duty: Black Ops releases on November 9 on PS3, 360, PC, Wii and DS.

I wish Activision would stop making me want Call of Duty games.

I enjoyed 4, didn’t really like W@W and felt disillusioned by MW2… But the build up to each game makes me want to buy them.

This is no different.

@6 – i agree

but yea it looks just like mw2, tho from what i’ve heard thru the grapevine it may be more balanced at least

Everyone drooled over the MW2 multiplayer trailer when that came out. Then they all started moaning about the game. It will be the same with this.

Yup, that looks an awful lot like generic FPS multiplayer to me.

So far so good. The thing that really nailed MW2′s multiplayer was the brilliant maps, though. Each one has three main avenues going down the length of the map, so you can usually flank around the chokepoints.

The thing that has me worried about Black Ops is the helicopter crap. The videos from those parts look ridiculous.

@8 A minority of people, obviously. Most are still playing.

@7 You keep saying that, but I fail to see where that imbalance is. I’ve prestiged twice and used completely different weapon sets every time, without affecting my score.

The only thing I can think of is shotgun lag, which makes the G18′s far better in a melee range shootout.

@11 – the biggest thing i heard that would change were that there would be:

-no commando
-no nukes (or any kind of game ending killstreak)
-kills from killstreaks would not count towards other killstreaks

whether we may agree or not on CoD’s MP i think most people would say that even those small changes over MW2 are a noticeable improvement esp those regarding killstreaks.

Even hearing little changes like that and the hope that the story for black ops cant be ANYWHERE near as putrid as MW2′s gives me some hope for this game. Hell it looks better than WaW anyway.

i would like to see a game with realistic reactions to the bullets, i sure as heel won’t stand still after getting shot in the arm, i would say “AHHH FUCK!!” & do a some arm flailing, while trying to shoot back with the free hand, if i got shot in the leg, i don’t think sprinting would be possible & if i were sprinting when shot in the leg, i would fall straight down, is there a single game ever made with these kind of reactions? be an awesome war sim game if an established name like CoD or Battlefield involved this in a sub series

@13 If they make killstreaks not count toward more killstreaks that would go a long way to make the game more enjoyable. However, it doesn’t really matter what they do with the rules if they don’t improve the netcode. MW2 is completely unplayable on a competitive level due to latency and packet lag. I don’t know much about Treyarch, but I doubt their engineers are as good as Bungie’s who are closer to lag-free gaming than anyone else on consoles. If this isn’t fixed then nothing else is even relevant. On the other hand now you can record the guy shooting you on his screen when you weren’t even in the same spot on yours :)

All I have to say is it better fell more like COD4 than MW2. If it doesn’t then fuck off man. And please stop all the damn camping. Build decent maps so these british kids can’t camp all fucking day.

Still hoping KZ3 feels like COD4 too.

Oh jeez… Another one Great Activision campaign as always.

– Hey guys, can you make a fucking brilliant trailer so 14 year olds can buy this game?
– Piece of cake.

But seriously, i see an Addon here to the Modern Warfare 2. Nothing new here. This time i won’t buy Call Of Duty game. Last time i bought because i was disillusioned by MW2 Multiplayer and singleplayer trailers + i had nothing to play on the multiplayer side. So, this time i won’t buy it. New Medal Of Honor didn’t impressed me at all, so almost no shooters for me this year. If CoD will be somehow fantastic i will borrow a copy from a friend and will play a little bit and than will buy a copy if i’ll like it.

@11

“A minority of people, obviously”

SURE. :lol:

@13 Well, to some people killstreaks is the stuff you keep getting in your head from above. For people who’ve played for a while, it’s the reward you get for playing well.

Getting nuked is a bitch, but that only happens because you fail to take down the best player. What do people expect from a multiplayer game? I play for that kind of challenge, and those people earn their wins. I totally respect that.

Commando or not is all down to taste. I think it’s nice to extend the melee kill a few measly yards. It’s not as if it makes anyone unbeatable.

@16 No one I know has been having lag problems. You do get the occasional Russian server late at night, but that’s it.

@19 Good thing you always have an army of anonymous internet kids to feed your delusions, huh? Sure beats the fuck out of the facts.

Given that it’s the most played non-MMO multiplayer game in the world, I’d say you’re shit out of luck. As usual.

@6 i agreee

another install of gaming’s most successful rehashed shit.
i really wish that trailer didnt make me want the game, but it did. but i will do my very best to not buy it.

that game represents everything i hate about the gaming world today. every lil mediocre raging lil 12 year old jizzing in their undies about their latest headshot.

sadly there are certain features about cod which make me almost foam at the mouth. the killstreaks. if u look at the bit with the car you can see a missile fly straight over it. which is something i would very much enjoy lol.

“Good thing you always have an army of anonymous internet kids”

Prove that they are all kids. I see only comments from mature people with good grammar.

“Given that it’s the most played non-MMO multiplayer game in the world, I’d say you’re shit out of luck.”

Well, good for you children :D Go play some “Pew Pew Pew” street wars XD with shitty campaign, graphics and old CS formula that i played long time ago.

@26 Well, by kids I really meant “impressionable forum geeks”. Who are probably lying through their teeth anyway, since most people obviously prefer MW2.

And wow, MW2 has a campaign? – Anyway, we’re interested in the unmatched, fastpaced multiplayer format.

I can understand why a slower, less skilled player might need a slower sort of game like BC2 – hiding in a tank and what not – but we’re a lot of people who aren’t so scared to be tested online.

@28 Haha, touché!

WaWs multiplayer was a clusterfuck, though. MW2s is a surgical motherfucker.

Seriously though, when I had played through BC2 – unlocked everything and gotten bored – and I went back to MW2, I got my ass handed to me for like a week.

That game just makes you slow.

Anyone notice that at the end it looked like he was saving a ‘film’ of the match? Thats cool…

@30 Yes, I noticed. But there is a kind of surveillance camera, so I guess that is part of a gadget in the game in order to secure an area. I guess we can also see what the camera recorded at that time at the end of the game.

#32

Gama_888

@28
yes cod is fast paced but it certainly does not require as much skill as slower game.

you think that because you can run around and press the r1 button slightly faster than your opponent your better?
no
i can give a first time fps player cod and therell get a few kils, even against an experienced player, and i know that from experience

skill comes from technique, not insane amounts of run and gun.
a skilled player knows that really, you can not run into a a group of people and come out alive, and if you do your lucky.

saying cod requires more skill than a slower paced fps has to be one of the stupidest things iv ever heard

#33

Crysis
10/08/10, 6:57 am

most ‘skilled’ players in cod just exploit everything, no true skill in exploiting.
Alo, imo, by leveling up, you should not really get better weapons, it’s unfair for those who do not want to spend several days to get the chance to exploit a more powerful weapon, should simply be more variations & add-ons for it

Exploding Arrows + No destruction of bodies or buildings = FAIL

BFBC2 + Vietnam Expansion Pack + BF3 Beta > Whole COD Series. Period

Looks like gore is turned off in this trailer actually. Thats pretty strange…

#36

Boris Fett
10/08/10, 10:16 am

@35 Why is that strange? Heck, the Kevin Butler trailer for God of War III had the blood turned off for it though.

It’s just to keep the classification down so it can be certified for promotion on sites and television without require any age rating or having to be shown at a later time slot. Pretty common practise.

#37

Gekidami

This trailer isnt meant for TV like the Kevin Butler ads, and the other Black Ops trailers had gore in them…

I challeng anyone who thinks that MW2 takes no skill to play me 1v1. You can use all the n00b weapons you like, and you can even tell me which weapon to use.

I accept your challenge :D

#40

DeSpiritusBellum
10/08/10, 3:45 pm

@32 Of course it does.

I didn’t feel very challenged at all by BC2, once I got used to the recoil and dispersion patterns.

A faster paced game means you need to react faster, and more importantly think faster. Since a deathmatch in MW2 punishes you as much for dying, as it rewards you for fragging, both are extremely important.

Succes in a multiplayer FPS isn’t down to “a few kills” it’s down to a lot of kills. Anyone can get frags, and anyone can probably get close to breaking even in their ratio within a week.

However, it isn’t until you’re getting high 20′s and below 5 deaths in a few rounds of MW2, that you know you’re doing good.

@33 I keep hearing people say this, but no one seems willing to prove it. It sounds easy enough to verify, so how come?

I’m yet to use Danger Close in any of my builds, or Scavenger, and I’m still owning matches.

By level 9, the configuration of weapons available to you are equal in damage and precision to any of the weapons that come after. That’s two hours of play.

You start out with an M4 which is basically a marginally more twitchy ACR. By level 8 you have the Scar which is a more precise TAR-21. I fail to see the problem.
