Need for Speed: Shift 2 confirmed in EA Q1 financials

Tuesday, 3rd August 2010 21:22 GMT By Johnny Cullen

EA’s just confirmed Need for Speed: Shift 2 is in development, putting it down for a Q4 FY2011 release.

The sequel was announced in the company’s just-released financial report for its first quarter.

No more information was provided.

Shift 2 was outed last month by the CV of an ex EA staffer.

This is most likely the second Need for Speed title EA mentioned back in February alongside Criterion’s Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, which releases in November.

The original Need for Speed: Shift released last year for PS3, 360, PSP and PC.

I agree that EA do milk the NFS franchise but Shift was really good, probably the best over the last 2/3 years. Im looking forward to Shift 2!

@3: This is no piece of shit. In fact it is the only racing game with a great in car view that no one can touch

@4 The in car view of NFS Shift was mediocre at best and the driving physics of the game were laughable. They need to stick with arcade cause they failed in the attempted simulation.

Thought ShiFT was fan-fuckin’tastic! The sound design on that game is immense!

@VG247: NFS shift 2 releases Q4 2011 same as Crysis 2. a lot of people claim that EA Q4 2011 is within the first 3 months of 2011 (see Crysis article comments). Obviously, NFS shift 2 will release towards the end of 2011. That puts Crysis 2 down there as well unless there’s a typo somewhere or the commenters are complete idiots (possible). Clarify this, please.

Why is it obvious it’ll release at the end of 2011?

In February EA said yet another Need for Speed game will be released at some point during it’s fourth quarter (1st January through 31st March 2011).

That’s usually when they release NFS titles. However, I checked your source and I stand corrected. Thanks for clearing that up.

@5: The physics were, once you tweaked them, actually quite good and the in car view was awesome afaik. The sounddesign was even better.

I am a big fan of Shift too. They did a lot of nice things in the game. The dynamic camera and the way focus shifted was really very good. Great immersion. The physics were mostly good, but cars got very, very lairy at the top end.

@8, to add on to what psychotext said, thy mean finiancial, not calender year which is what the FY means in “Q4 FY2011″

Shift 1 was good and I’ll get it the 2nd one too, but I want Hot Pursuit so bad.
