Capcom profits crater 90% in Q1
Not going terribly well in Japan today, is it?
Capcom’s profit dropped 90.4 percent year-over-year for the quarter ending June 30, the publisher said today, down from 2.2 billion yen in the same period last year to 213 million yen in 2010.
Sales were roughly static, dropping 2.4 percent to 19 billion yen compared to the corresponding previous period.
Capcom pegged the “sluggish” figures on the fact Lost Planet 2 “struggled to grow” and “underperformed its projection substantially”.
Super Street Fighter IV and Monster Hunter Frontier Online “showed steady growth,” the company said.

Capcom announced Street Fighter x Tekken at Comic-Con last week, although we won’t be seeing that until 2012 at least.
Major Capcom prospects for the rest of this financial year include Dead Rising 2.
Both Nintendo and Sony recorded losses for their first quarters this morning.

not so many good exclsuives.they should release all of their console games multiplatform… or better: do good port of each system…
And the company lacks of good new games. I mean… Street Fighter 4 and then SUPER STREET FIGHTER 4? that was possible in the snes time…but today..
a reboot of the RE series would help….or what happend to their other ips..? Okami? Onimusha? Breath of Fire? Devil May Cry 4 was not so good as its predecessors. dino crisis 3? omfg…that was a disaster….
And only some fat loads of good classics on the Console Online Stores wont help too.
Since the last gen of consoles they have to many failures in their pocket….maybe thats what #3 meant.
They need to get on the straight road..and only develop & publish very good games.

New IP would help, along with a decent Resident Evil game i.e. going back to it’s roots as opposed to some piss-poor 3rd person shooter.

Too bad Lost Planet 2 turned out to be such ass. If it had been as good as it looked in previews I think that figure would be a bit smaller.

@9 Considering both of the Street Fighter IV games you mentioned sold an absolute metric ton of copies, I’m not exactly sure what you mean.
I find it hilarious that people are complaining about the nature of certain games being responsible for this down-turn in profits when the game they are lambasting are in fact some of their best selling titles this generation.
I think Capcom’s biggest problem this year was more the *lack* of games, than the quality of them. Then again, I’m one of the few people who seems to like the approach they took with Lost Planet 2.

what i mean was…u cant only have 4 multi-platform active ips with that size of company….except u are naughty dog or (in good old times) bungie which had only 1 or 2 ips and rock like hell.
