3DS: Nintendo brands this-quarter release talk “Chinese whispers”

Thursday, 29th July 2010 17:20 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Following apparent confirmation to Bloomberg that Nintendo will release 3DS in Japan this quarter, Nintendo has branded the talk “Chinese whispers”.

Earlier today it was confirmed that Nintendo will announce 3DS’s date and pricing plans on September 29.

“No – we’ve not announced anything to Bloomberg or anyone else,” Nintendo told VG247 in response to the story, which was picked up by Gamespot.

“It’s just speculation. It might be a case of Chinese whispers, as we have confirmed to Bloomberg there will be an event on the September 29 in Japan where we intend to discuss launch timings, price and shipment details.”

Nothing has been announced on the console’s price since its E3 reveal, although NoA boss Reggie Fils-Aime has said it’ll be out in all major regions by the end of March 2011.

We were told last week that the handheld was set to release in the UK in March.

TGS: ish

The announcement will be a separate event from Toyko Game Show, which takes place from September 16-19.

Publishers and developers alike are going mental for the machine: EA COO John Schappert said the tech will “sell like hot cakes”, while Japanese developers like Capcom’s Keiji Inafune and Konami’s Hideo Kojima are said to be having their main teams at work on it, according to Shigeru Miyamoto.

Inafune’s gone properly gaga over it too.

“Video games need three things to be successful: a concept, a technology platform, and good marketing. The Nintendo 3DS is a perfect example of those three things bundled into one,” he said.

3DS also won the Best of Show award at E3.

You aren’t likely to like the first party titles, and it’s product made by Nintendo.

That’s 50 kinds of awesome. I was actually told it was going to release in June or July just before E3, and dismissed it as the rantings of a mad person. Smoke, fire, etc.

I’ve no intentions of buying this yet, albeit it’s a little intriguing, but unless i hear nothing official of the psp2 by the end of this year, it’ll be a very long time before i consider buying this, i’m just gonna take a guess that it’ll be available FEB in the US & MAR in EUR

@6 – i just have never been a fan of nintendo’s output really tbh =/

mario and zelda have for me been played out too much and i just can’t say i am a fan of their overly saccharine style with their games (not that i’m saying i want them to make a CoD or anything god no! altho kirby looked ****ing sweet at e3! :)). I respect them (especially after this E3) and they can get serious games when they try (eternal darkness) but for me my purchase of the 3DS will be based on 3rd party support, and so far it is looking intriguing.

and if i do get one i may be partial to at least 1 2d mario side scroller :P
