Dragon Age DLC Golems of Amgarrak detailed with trailer

BioWare has detailed its next bit of DLC for Dragon Age over on the game’s official site.

Called Golems of Amgarrak, it has you going underground to save a missing dwarven expedition, which was searching for “ancient secrets for creating monstrous constructs”.

Apparently, the expedition didn’t go too well, and judging by the trailer below, your quest won’t either unless you tread carefully.

According to the description, there’s all new environments, new characters, never before seen creatures, a new storyline, and puzzles – all for $5.

“You have come to Orzammar at the request of Jerrik Dace. Jerrik’s brother led an expedition into the Deep Roads to find Amgarrak and the long-lost secrets of golem construction,” BioWare senior designer Rob Bartel told MMORPG.

“The rediscovery of such a method would bring great wealth, power and prestige to House Dace but the expedition has not returned and is now feared lost.

“Jerrik, along with his trusty bronto, Snug, will be joining you in the search for his missing brother. You will find other unexpected companions as you continue on the journey and will need all the help that you can get.

“We want to emphasize that the Golems of Amgarrak is a very challenging quest and not for the faint of heart, particularly when played on Hard or Nightmare difficulty. As for the secret horrors at which the trailer hints, we’ll leave that for only our bravest of players to discover.”

Sounds neat to us at least.

Golems of Amgarrak is to made available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 August 10.

    @3 simple its called taking somethings that should be on the disk when its released but instead holding them back so they can later on release them as over priced dlc, that is how it is possible for bioware to “make” DAO dlc and work on DA2 at the same time

    @4 Some games are certainly guilty of that – Assassin’s Creed 2 being the most glaringly obvious example to me. I loved AC2, but the “missing” chapters which suddenly became DLC were the most slap-in-the-face obvious case of content being cut out before launch only to be slotted back in to place at additional cost that I’ve personally seen. They even had the audacity to have one of the characters step in mid-flow and say “Hey, this part of the story is missing for some reason. Maybe we’ll see it later! LOL! $£$£$ kthxbai”, voiced by professional annoying twat Danny Wallace, no less.

    I don’t think that’s the case with Bioware. Time and time again they’ve show how committed they are to delivering a constant stream of content to those who want to fill in the gaps between games. Persoanally I think this (and Mass Effect 2′s steady flow of DLC) is just them putting their creative teams to good use while the technical details of DA2′s rehauled engine are still being worked out.

    Considering that I got 24 hours of game time out of AC2 by sequence 11 (12 and 13 being the DLC) I can understand why it was cut. The game is massive, far too big actually, hence why it’s not only had bits of it restored in DLC but also having an entire second game to finish off the story.

    I can see why people are annoyed with it though (I bought the complete edition thingy :P) but it’s not as cut and dry as they just cut it and sat on it. It wasn’t finished, hell, it’s still not finished, the DLC chapters are bugged to fuck and have all sorts of missing dialogue and nearly broken cutscenes.

    The most obvious example is actually Bioshock 2, which it actually was on the disc that you bought where AC2 had a nearly 2 gb download to add the stuff.

    They have a DLC team and a core team. DLC team creates the DLC while the core team is busy making the expansion and now the sequel. Thats what happens when you are successful you can hire other people to do other jobs.


    That was the case with CApcom games, Ubisoft, not the case with Bioware games and many other developers like Gearbox.

    @4 In this particular instance, that’s the most ridiculous complaint I’ve ever heard.

    Maybe it might be true of the first two or three pieces of DLC, but certainly not the stuff that preceded it. A quest where you play through a specific character’s past blatantly isn’t cut DLC, nor is the DLC where you play as the darkspawn.

    And Awakenings? That’s practically a game in itself.
