Redesigned Cole revealed in inFamous 2 video

cole infamous 2

See that? That’s not David Beckham. But that is the newly redesigned Cole for inFamous 2, apparently.

The art, spotted by GAF, is shown in a dev diary for the Sucker Punch action sequel that was released last week.

You can catch the glimpse in the video below at 2:45 in.

Earlier this week, the developer had announced it was redesigning Cole to the original character model from the first game following negative reaction to the new look it was given when it was revealed back in May.

A new video was also released earlier this week, showing off the cut-scenes for the game.

inFamous 2 releases next year for PS3.

You’d not buy a game because you dislike the look of the main character?

    How odd.

I concur with 2. People are so fucking annoying. They bitch and moan about a character growing hair and say they won’t buy it because of this. Grow up you whining little bitches!

Surely re-re-designing Cole will cut majorly into development time.

Unless Sucker Punch had two versions of cutscenes and comic book movies, one with new Cole and one with old new cole. Otherwise they’ll have to go back and draw all the Cole comics again and alter his asset in the in-engine cutscenes.

    Melodramatic much?

I couldn’t give two shits what Cole looks like. The graphics and gameplay look frigging amazing.

    Amen, Dralen.

This is getting out of hand.

Yes, the re-design was so different it was the equivalent of replacing and actor in a film, for example Katie Holmes from Batman, and yes the general wisdom is don’t change character’s too much or the connection between installments is lost, but in the end it’s just a videogame and the story was only so-so at best in inFamous itself.

In the end if the gameplay is there and they use the new character well then most people should be happy. Some clearly won’t, but then that sort never are.

@2 – not usually no but i thought the other design was a big step forward for infamous only for them to dsicard it due to fan pressure. So no, quite frankly i’m not happy and its tempered my view of the game at this point when i was kinda on the fence in the first place.

Maybe it will, maybe it won’t. THey had only shown one cutscene with the redesigned Cole. Maybe they wanted to release that cutscene to see what the feedback would be and since its not what they desired for feedback it put in the Old cole back and went back to development.

Previous cole design for InFamous 2, was good and so dandy, and i liked it more than this one! :(

As a Fan of the first game, i’m glad that they changed it back. People calling it a re-re-design but its not they just put the original. Its like a sequel of a movie but they hired a new actor(ie. like the Hulk movies) now they just hired back the first dude. Much Better IMO

actually think it would be much simpler than that.
surely it would just be changing the image loaded for the sprite?
it would actually be quite easy i think? :-/

That cutscene was inengine so not a lot of time to just replace the models. If it was those Comic cutscenes that would be completely different.

@13: Why would it be different? Three Minutes in Photoshop.

Anyway, is this official? This could be a wip character design. There are tons of that if you ever had a artbook in your hand.

As long as it’s not official it’s not worth mentioning, otherwise you’ll just confuse people.

I’d imagine replacing hand drawn (albeit hand drawn via computer software) artefacts would be equally as taxing as in-engine stuff.

I think it’s not the new Cole.
It’s the Cole from the first inFamous 1 video…
    Well, maybe I’m wrong
But in any case, I want them to put a similar new Cole, not 100% the old one, something like 80% xD
The inFamous 2 first Cole design looks too much with Nathan Drake…

@14 You must officially by the most gifted artist in the entire galaxy if you can create that sort of thing in three minutes in Photoshop.

Also, this entire character thing is retarded. It was a new look, and a pretty cool one at that. Made the character look a hell of a lot more mature too, instead of the annoying punk he was in the first one.

People on the internet seriously need to get over themselves, and developers need to stop listening to the vocal minority as well. 99% of the people who buy this game either won’t know or won’t care.

They showed both the ‘young’ Cole and ‘older’ Cole , during gameplay scenes. The ones where we see older Cole running around, is that from inFamous 1 or 2?

  20. Gama_888

we never saw the nathan drake lookalike version of cole in a comic strip thing did we?

    #20 4 years ago
  21. Moonwalker1982

No i don’t recall that, but i for one am very happy with this news. Cole was cool in inFamous, serious but not too serious, it all fitted perfectly in the game. When i saw the first trailer it was like seeing the son of Nathan Drake, well…kind of, lol. Simply not nessecary and i like it alot that Sucker Punch actually listened to this criticism.

The old one looked great and the new one looks cool as well.
    I didnt hate both.

@17: Erm, are you joking? You think someone who does art for a living can’t replace a character in under 3 or 5 minutes via photoshop? Get real.

  24. Moonwalker1982

Really? If you ask me, the young Cole seems MUCH more like an annoying punk with ‘clever’ remarks and what not, that i certainly DON’T WANT in inFamous 2. Cole wasn’t annoying at all, explain that to me why you say he was :)

I think the previous ‘re designed’ Cole was better, but whatever. I’m still all over this game. It’s gunna be a cracker.

Hmm, I don’t think it’s accurate to say that we’re seeing the re-redesign, there. The “old” Cole bits and bobs in that video (both in-game and external assets) all appeared to be from inFamous 1 to me.

Also, that video has incredibly mournful music. I feel like I’ve just been watching a funeral.
