Rumour – COD subcription plan leaked in gameplay video

callofduty419

Looks like there’s no smoke without fire. The video after the break apparently shows a “membership” plan for Call of Duty, via Modern Warfare 2.

If a video recorded by a 360Junkies member is to be believed, the sub-plan would be payable via MS points.

The video shows the player trying to join a multiplayer session in the game via a friend’s gamercard, as detailed below.

“I was trying to join a friend’s session on MW2 the other day and had this screen pop up. It clearly says at the top of this menu: ‘Modern Warfare 2 Membersh’, in which we can confidently assume that the last word is “Memberships”. If you’ll notice at the bottom is an option to “Add Microsoft Points”, clearly indicating that this was intended to be a menu for purchasing different levels of Membership, presumably memberships would have been offered in a variety of durations.”

Remember, this could be anything. We’ll try and get a comment from Activision.

Thanks, TSA.

y’know im not even surprised, i despise activision.

so you pay £39.99 for the game and then you need to pay an additional whatever to get the MS points to take it online?? Say it aint so… somebody. not that i play COD anyway but this is bad crack

If this is true it’s going to go proper thermo. People do tend to get quite irate about “money”.

So 360 users pay for gold membership to play online but now they will pay even more to play online. That is bad, but the people to blame are the gamers who buy overated games and they are so brainwashed that they will do anything…
Fuck the society of today’s gamers I want the 90s to return were gaming was kind of underground activity…

Hope this does not become a trend & i hope that if any form of membership comes it fails miserably

@5 – It does seem very convenient.

Indeed – all those people playing MW2 for months and months and this only pops up after Pachter mentions they should do something like it? Suspiciously convenient.

In fact, I bet Pachter made it! :-D

If this will start ONLY on consoles, i will sell all my consoles. I’m done with this BS. Enough is enough.

Even paying for maps 15 bucks is ok compared to this. I just can’t pay for every multiplayer game 15$ or whatever. At least it’s a Call Of duty franchise that i don’t care much, but it is a start for everyone else in the business to do the same trick.

You know I thought to myself when Pachter “predicted” this sort of thing that I could see it happening, I just didn’t think it’d be this soon.

I think if Activision go ahead with this it’ll really benefit EA and other FPS publishers who will undoubtedly push the “look: our game is free to play online, our map packs are cheaper, and we haven’t inflated the RRP”.

I’ve mailed Acti and specifically asked if the video’s fake.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Activision did this. Koticks on a mission to milk gamers dry.

Sounds similar to how the memberships thing works in monster hunter tri in japan.

If people are fucking stupid enough to buy 5 maps for 15$ then this would probably be successful unfortunately.i just hope people will lighten up and realise it’s not worth it.

Fuck this. Seriously – If ‘gamers’, hardcore or otherwise, do what they normally do and suck this shit up, then I’ve no sympathy for any of you.

Do. Not. Want.

Everyone screams NO, but every last online fps junkie wil pay in the end.

And really, how many folks here are the type that play MW2 MP anyways. I mean it isn’t as if G1GA is on this thread saying he will walk away if the sub plan happens.

And while I play BFBC2(once in awhile – I am not hardcore), a modest fee isn’t that big of a deal. If you play a lot of MW2. I mean compare the hours played vs the money paid.

I pay 15/month to play WoW. Infact close to 12million people do. Whats the difference? I know MMORPG vs FPS. But that doesn’t matter if your a hardcore FPS fan.

So yea this sub plan sucks. For sometimes players. But for the dedicated … not that big of a deal.

@11 But they’ll obviously say its a rumour unless they are confident about starting it in a few weeks.

If they do this then us the gamers are fucked =/ BUT on the other hand we’ll go back to the classics ;D

best thing about this is that people with brains wont play due to this membership and that only the pubeless will pay for this game long live BF!!!!!!!!!and i hope whoever made this idea should get a noble price due to fall of activsion

hahaha!
Activision will never get my money if this does happen. Any game i find with an Activision logo on it will be immediately ignored.

Scary stuff, but I don’t see even the slightest bit of conclusive evidence up there.

The fact that there’s a code delivery system hardly means there’s a subscription coming.

They could never charge for it unless they made a COD MMO or something.

I mean it isn’t as if G1GA is on this thread saying he will walk away if the sub plan happens.

I’m not a regular example though, OG, as I’m the kind of person who very rarely ever complains about price. (I’m not rich, by any means, I just respect people’s right to charge whatever they want.)

This vid is clearly fake… Still, I’m pretty sure that any extra subscription plan is going to come with a whole lot of extra features and ‘freebies’ to try and help sell it to the sometimes players anyway.

“I pay 15/month to play WoW. Infact close to 12million people do. Whats the difference?”

This is a good point, as is GIGA’s about the extra features. Frankly, if they ever make Modern Warfare as bulky as WoW then I’d say a subscription fee is borderline reasonable. Depending on the fee, of course.

I doubt it’s going to happen though. Not as long as Modern Warfare is multi-plat and Sony offers PSN for free.

This pic may be fake but it sure as hell is happening. I’m in Australia at the moment and they have a gaming TV show called Good Game which aired last night. They had a fature on Treyarch in which one of the guys interviewed dropped a HUGE clue about subs. It went along the lines of “I cant talk about multiplayer right now, were announcing that later BUT I can tell you we’ve totally redesigned the customisation, ranking (perk) system and made it much more of a social experience” (or words to that effect)

After watching it there was no doubt in my mind that subs in some form are coming with Black Ops as part of a new Call of Duty World.

@32 Yeah that’s obviously the same as saying they’ll introduce subscriptions.

It’s not as if there’s a huge movement within gaming as a whole to include customization or social elements… Oh, wait.

@34 watch the video, then judge.

Until then. STFU.

Yeah it was probably more like trying to play the maps or didn’t have x box live and was trying to play online multiplayer or some shit…if they start charging a sub i would just finally put that piece of shit game to rest and play shooters that didnt charge subs…dont they get enough money by raping us with a $60 game every year that sells 20 million plus…
