Square: “Technical problems” delayed FFXIV on PS3

Thursday, 8th July 2010 14:36 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka has told JeuxVideo that “technical problems” are holding up the MMO’s PS3 version.

“We understand the wrath of players, and developers are sorry because they did everything they could to have a simultaneous release date,” said Tanaka, “but unfortunately they have encountered many technical problems on the development of the game for PS3. We strive to release the game as soon as possible.

“If possible, we would publish the game sooner,” he added. “We would like to start as soon as possible the beta on PS3.”

Square Enix recently delayed the PS3 version into March 2011. The game was previously due this year.

PC owners, however, will get it in late September worldwide, with a special limited edition releasing in Europe the week before.

Square sent along word today in a newsletter that the game is now available to pre-order.

Thanks, PSLS.

    Technically it’s not finished. :-)

In another interview with French fansite FFWorld, Tanaka specifically blamed the limited memory size of the PS3, adding that his team had to shrink data size. I find it quite surprising they didn’t mention that during E3, when a lot of journalists asked about the whereabouts of the PS3 version…

It probably is delayed because SE wants to buy some time to finalize a Microsoft deal since they are still negotiating.
It’s not the first time SE making excuses like this…that’s so typical of SE

I don’t think a Microsoft deal’s coming, the project’s basically dead in the water for 360.

Sounds like somewhat poor project management to me. Clearly there is now a fair gulf between a decent gaming PC and the PS3, but given the PS3 specs are known and they spent ages on FFXIII for the device it seems a little weak to get caught balancing the title to the console’s fixed specifications.

This should have been handled in the early design not discovered as an issue so late in the day.

They will find a way eventually Blerk…SE never said a 360 port is entirely off the table.
One day they are saying the game is exclusive the other it’s multiplatform.
I don’t think Tanaka’s statement is true. It’s clearly an excuse. There’s another reason why they delay it which apparently will make “players wrath” bigger if he “confess” it :)

Total B.S. Don’t trust anything SE says anymore.

To be honest I don’t care much either way. I have no desire to play a FF MMO, regardless of platform. :-)

Me neither…the whole point is SE is trying to make fool of the public with lame excuses while they achieve making fool of themselves and lose their dignity(or what’s left of it)
Gamers aren’t dumb and apparently SE thinks they are.

FFXI was awesome if you knew how to make (useful) friends. Then again, I know JP games have really fallen out of favor this gen, with many gamers; Hearing no desire to play it isn’t unusual.

Dont have much interest for an FF MMORPG …. though I bet a lot of would.

Too many games in the back burner for me …. which I still have to start playing.
