Japanese hardware charts – DS goes top as 360 receives Slim boost

Another week, another win in Japan for P… hold the phone. Best sit down for this.
DSi LL’s new colour scheme has properly done the trick for Nintendo: sales of it rocketed, giving the handheld the top spot with 41,000 last week.
PSP followed in second with 23,000 while PS3 sold just under 20,000 in third.
Xbox 360 got a massive shot in the arm in sales last week in the country, selling 17,000 compared to just over 2,000 last week. You can thanks Slim’s launch, price cutting to older models and the release of the Monster Hunter Frontier Online for that.
Bringing up the rear was PSPgo with sales of just 845.
Here’s the full lot, from June 21-27:
- DSi LL – 41,676
- PSP – 23,257
- PS3 – 19,578
- Wii – 19,115
- Xbox 360 – 17,370
- DSi – 17,306
- DS Lite – 5,209
- PS2 – 1,530
- PSPgo – 845
Last week’s data is here.
Japanese year-to-date sales now stand at:
- DS – 1,124,054
- PSP – 1,075,957
- Wii – 796,981
- PS3 – 736,248
- Xbox 360 – 98,666
- PS2 – 43,778

I’m guessing Monster Hunter Frontier helped out on the 360 sales… still no news of it arriving the west though it seems

I’m guessing that 360 sales boost won’t last for a second week.

What does the Xbox usually pull in Japan, under 10k?
PSP doing well still which is good to see. And I never knew the Xl was called LL in Japan. I thought it was another SKU!

@2 Next week Xbox 360 will probably be at the sales of the PS3, because they have exclusive Monster Hunter: Frontier that was at the Top charts this week. 93000 copies sold in it’s week.

In another 40 or so weeks the PSP Go may have sold through its launch shipment!

I’ve added year-to-date Japanese hardware sales and a frankly amazing graph full of lines.

Is that really all it is? It’s gone mental.

Sales certainly appear to be on a slippery slope over there. No wonder the Japanese devs have turned into doomsayers.

Not bad boost, but unless MS can release an exclusive title like MH and a new model and cut the price of old models every week this isn’t going to last very long.
Probably 10K next week then a quick drop back to 3K to 4K.
Unless the Japanese really warm to the Slim (which has to be a slim chance) or to Kinect later in the year (which I think is also a pretty slim chance at this point).

im in one of the few countries where the 360 lead, USA & UK being the obvious ones, but alos in Australia, the 360 is the dominant platform (after Nintendo’s 2, not sure about the psp tho), it has sold more than Sony’s ps3 though which is why i’m surprised that PSN has great support, we even have the Vidzone

maybe now that the 360 is tinier and more quiet, those guys will finally start buying it, lulz.

Under 100.000 360s to date? That’s pathetic!

Could be wrong though.
