PS3 firmware update 3.40 stealthily adds Move support

Did you know that Sony can remotely add things to your PS3 and not tell you about it? Wild, huh? We’d be outraged, but we probably should’ve actually read those terms of service we agreed to when we signed-up for PSN. Our bad.

This time, it’s just what looks to be the foundation for Move support. But next time? Well, our memory’s a bit hazy, but we’re pretty sure this is how the Terminator movie franchise started.

But first, Move! According to Joystiq, you’ll now find a new “calibrate motion controller” tab in the XMB’s settings section. Between that and Sony’s tendency to lay similar groundworks months before their corresponding products launch, smart money says your PS3 could very well be ready to get its Move on – no more updates required.

This, of course, comes in addition to a bevy of other goodies, which Sony was bit more candid about.

Exciting, huh? The future is now. But not the dark, post-apocalyptic future, fortunately. Again, that’s probably coming in the next update.

They probably have to update it cos the games are about to go out to journos for review in the September magazines. So they’d have to update early.

Hey do these things vibrate also….cause man I just can’t help to think what some people are going to do with that MOVE controller :( especially if the glowing ball part vibrates too.
