Rumour – Reggie “mistaken” about 2011 3DS release

According to a Kotaku rumour, NoA boss Reggie Fils-Aime was “mistaken” over the 2011 3DS release he dropped on US TV over the weekend.
The site’s Japanese sources haven’t made it clear if the handheld would still release in the US this year, but this could be a further sign of a 2010 Japanese launch, adding credence to a Japanese retailer listing this morning.
UK retailers The Hut, Best Buy and Asda are convinced the wonder-machine won’t be out until next year in Europe.
Fils-Aime’s already said that 3DS will be out in all major regions by March 2011.

Has there ever been a Nintendo handheld that came out in Europe first? I think we’ve been last every time as far back as the GameBoy and Game & Watches.

Shows how Nintendo Japan don’t even keep their US CEO fully informed.
I once worked at a dev in Manchester (UK) where NoA visited us to get a look at an early SNES dev kit which we’d got via a Japanese publisher.

Is the 3DS going to make games better? The answer is no. Once the 3D factor wears off it’ll just be like any other hand-held out there.
Yet, gamers will continue to wank themselves off over the hand-held.
I couldn’t give a monkeys spunk about the 3DS to be honest.

“Yet, gamers will continue to wank themselves off over the hand-held.”
All of a sudden, I’m seeing some new and gratifying ways that 3D could make a meaningful difference to certain types of viewing!

@3 the same was said about the touch screen, the wii remote… And look at the situation today. Even without the 3d you get a much more powerfull ds with new function (joystick, online…).

I don’t think he’s necessarily mistaken when he says it’s out “next year” given that he’s talking to a US audience and is thus giving a US date. To me, that doesn’t say it’s not coming out in other territories before then, just that it won’t be in the States. As ever with Nintendo hardware, it’ll be Japan first, US next, Europe third.

Aren’t the games for the 3DS region locked now? If so, nintendo can just fuck off.
