Sainsbury’s cuts DS to £99

Sainsbury’s has cut the price of Nintendo’s DS to just £99, no doubt in response to the reveal of the Japanese company’s 3DS at E3 last week.

An ad in a London Newspaper, The Metro, shows the new price of the handheld, although as yet no other retailer seems to have followed Sainsbury’s lead.

Nintendo did confirm that it would cut the price of DS to coincide with the reveal of 3DS, however the company also added that deciding the cost to the consumer would be left to the retailer.

They’ve got 120gb 360 Elites for £139.99 too. With two pads and two games included.

DS or DSi? Your article text states one, & the image above shows the other.

From ComputerAndVideoGames.com:

Nintendo has told ONM that the price of DSi will be cut across the UK from June 18 – just around the time the 3DS is due to be unveiled at E3.

“In the UK, Nintendo will be reducing the trade price of Nintendo DS Lite and Nintendo DSi to retailers from June 18th 2010,” said a Nintendo spokesperson.

However, Nintendo has yet to reveal the details of the price cut, saying “the ultimate price to consumers is, of course, determined by the retailers.”

If memory serves, didn’t Nintendo have their hand somewhat forced into revealing the 3DS in the first place? Could be that this type of situation is why they really wanted to hold off on announcing it.

The DSi is hardly a dinosaur in the marketplace.
