This is just getting silly. Exclusive demo of a multi-platform title?

I thought 30 days exclusivity of map packs was scraping the barrel, but who knew?

It is getting silly, exclusive demos, dlc, timed exclusivity, imo publishers are hurting their selves

It’s frankly ridiculous.

Although I signed up for a token. Sorry. :-D

I’d suspect it’s more to do with the amount of time it takes to prepare a demo rather than any kind of requested exclusivity or platform preference.

Anyone with sense will have both platforms so can sample the demo and parity is usually fairly close these days so you chose which platform to play on based on friends lists, cheevos, controllers, etc. anyway.

No biggie.

@6 Definitely. What with EA talking about charging for demos we should be glad there’s a way to test the game at all.

Whether MS handed over any cash for exclusivity, or if Eidos simply decided because the 360 has a larger Western audience it should get the demo I don’t know.

@7
Unlikely cash was involved, but promotion of the game through the dash channels is one possibility.

and people say that to pay for online is amazing

DLC is amazing

Map Packs are amazing

I want someone to put all three consoles in someone’s ass. If all games would come to PC i would never buy console. NEVER. Consoles are for idiots and always will be for idiots, kids and stupid consumers. Yeah, i’m one of them, because i bought console for specific games that i really enjoy.
I bought one (and Wii that i’m selling) for some games that i need to play. Just for that and thank god that PS3 have free online and something that is close to PC environment and it’s still not perfect.

Consoles must die. Consoles are just an abomination. They are perfect environment for business and perfect illusion to some gamers.

I understand why OlderGamer said that he wants OnLive to be successfull.

@13….not a knock, but PC gamers piss on consoles alot, but u never see a game mentioned on sales charts from PC….no matter how beautiful they look, or how fast they run on a PC….its always gonna be hacked and be less profitable…..sorry to say but PC gaming may be a dying breed

#15

@14 It’s not dying and never will be dead. 27 July i will play Starcraft II and it will be easy on charts and will sell for 5-9 million copies.
Not to mention bout MMORPG games and SIMS.

Why games on PC don’t sell? Because they are stupid console ports, some companies like Ubisoft use DRM or some games are just not worth playing like Mass Effect and e.t.c where on consoles they sell like crazy. Not enough marketing campaign on PC.
Games that designed specifically for PC always sell.

Starcraft II and diablo 3 will sell or Valve games will sell.
PC is not dying and never will die and environemnt is much better then on my PS3. For 10000000% better.

I like my PS3 only because of games and some features, but for gaming it’s just a toy.

I dont agree with you on that Erthazus, not at all. I say screw pc gaming and hail to console gaming. Console gaming = buy a game , insert it and play it. PC gaming…install it, hoping that your hardware is strong enough and then finally play it.

And trust me, when i was still a pc gamer, plenty of times i had a game and it would give me errors and simply crashing back to Windows. Or my videocard wouldn’t be good enough so i had to tone down several settings, making the game look like shit. I remember when i bought Rogue Spear at the time, i couldn’t wait. I had a great pc , all of it was considered top notch. But when i started the game it ran like shit, and no matter what drivers i installed for my videocard, nothing was good enough. Really tiring actually.

Then i all of a sudden didn’t have enough RAM, and i can go on and on. Then came N64,PS,DC,PS2,Xbox,GC,Xbox 360 and PS3.
And i’m happy as hell. Connected to my plasma tv with nice surround sound set, and sitting on my couch..it’s all much more comfortable than PC gaming for me ever will be.

“Console gaming = buy a game , insert it and play it. PC gaming…install it, hoping that your hardware is strong enough and then finally play it”

Man, you can keep your games on PC without using disks mate. Thats why install is there.
Install is not that long compared to consoles if they NEED installs of course.
If you have big HDD you can have a full library of games installed to your PC.

“it would give me errors and simply crashing back to Windows.”

It’s not 2001. It’s 2010. I don’t have errors since Windows Vista and i play A LOT.

and i had this year one CRASH on my PS3 playing Red Dead Redemption.

“Or my videocard wouldn’t be good enough so i had to tone down several settings, making the game look like shit”

and it’s still will look better then on consoles.

“Connected to my plasma tv with nice surround sound set, and sitting on my couch..it’s all much more comfortable than PC gaming for me ever will be.”

Of course you cannot connect PC to your Plasma with surrounding system and play with a controller on couch right? there is some barrier right?

Moonwalker, i’m sorry. Much respect to you buddy, but thats bullshit.

I have Ps3, Wii and great PC. Gaming on PC is much better then even if i will combine two consoles together and here’s why:

1) Games are cheaper

2) Games sound, look, run better

3) MODS. Level creators

4) Free Online Play with Cross game chats and e.t.c. on Steam without paying a Dollar.

5) you have your Netflix and other multimedia hub with you and you can combine 3 consoles together and you still have much more multimedia on your PC.

6) Mouse and keyboard is just much enjoyable for some genres that were BORN on PC like FPS games.
If you want to screw around with controller then it’s not the problem too.

Other stuff is what you expect from a console is here on PC. Not to mention legendary games from Blizzard and RTS games.

@18 all that and still not as profitable as on a console to a developer

It may all be true that errors dont happen as often anymore. But i’m not gonna go back anymore. My ‘heart’ belongs to console gaming now, i’m happy with it and that’s good enough :)

Sure you can connect a pc to your tv. But in my case, i just don’t have the space for a computer next to it. Laptop all the way for me.

Games aren’t nessecarily even that cheaper. Ok, if you get games from the game stores in your town, they are like 60 euros for consoles. But i order them from this internet store for like 40 euros or 45 euros. PC games are around that price here as well. I am satisfied with how my games sound, its good enough. And this goes for the graphics and performance most of the time too :) .

MODS are great, but i don’t need them at all. I already now am having a problem with so many games and not really getting to finishing them, i wouldn’t even have the time for mods. Plus all my friends are on Xbox live, and paying some for a good working online service, i don’t mind that.

@19 But you care? you are playing games and they still are on PC and by the way, they are profitable to developers, it’s just from PC publishers make not much money compared to consoles.

But MMORPG games sells a lot on PC. Activision for example have only 30% profitability on consoles, while 70% on PC. Thats just an example.

@20 “My ‘heart’ belongs to console gaming now, i’m happy with it and that’s good enough ”

Can’t say much here. But i still think you should do a research. Gaming PC is a great thing and PC is not huge and as you said Laptop is for you. There are good gaming laptops.

I prefer console gaming to PC gaming too.
But a lot of what Erth is saying are really good points on why PC gaming is great.
Console is definitely the simplest way of gaming and depending on your living situation, could be all around better for you.
One major problem for PC gaming for me is that i live in a Studio Apt. My living room is already crouded without having to bring the PC in there to hook it up to my 60″ LED and surround sound while draging all its cables and components in with it. Also, my PC is used for Web browsing, programming, art (priority as it is my job), and the occasional hacking and all of which just dont work well on an HD TV of any kind.
I think maybe if PC wasnt used for everyday things that it would be perfect as a gaming device but again, too much going on with PC to use it just for that and that’s where consoles shine. My console and its controllers sit perfectly under the unit, snuggled in (with air vents of course), my games are in a cd folder (maxamise space), and its all nicely connected to my HDTV and surround sound for enjoying movies and video game playing. I walk in, pop a disc ina dn im set to go.

having a gaming PC (roughly $600 total for my gaming PC. I know Erth, low price for what i told i had before but i get my parts mostly for free or dirt cheap because i build PCs for my Uncle who owns his own PC expo shop.) and having a gaming Laptop ($1,000 – $1400) and a laptop/pc for regular use ($500) can get super pricey. Again, depends on living situations.

PC is definitely the most powerful and capable way of gaming, but it isnt always ideal.

@ 22

Yup, there are good gaming laptops but i recently bought a brand new Sony Vaio, not sure how good it’s gonna be for gaming though. The only time i will be playing alittle on PC if a game like The Witcher II doesn’t come out for Xbox 360 and/or PS3.
There are already so many upcoming console games this year, i want them all…i’ll never have the time for pc gaming,so nah ;)

@MoonWalker, absolutely. If you have time, check out for Witcher 2. Thats a REAL hardcorish RPG game.
I’m really looking forward to it.

@26 It’s not announced for consoles. Yet. but if they will announce, i hope they will make a decent port.

@spiderLAW i agree with you completely. Can’t say more because it’s your choice and you smart enough to make your own choice. My point was that people that like gaming don’t do a research while on PC there are a lot of great stuff, but no. We see only what TV is trying to sell us.

but please, somehow, don’t miss Witcher 2. It’s a Real hardcorish RPG game. You should try it.

My problem with PC gaming is the upgrades you have to make if ur say a regular joe internet surfer like me. When Aion was coming out I actually pre-ordered it until I found out how much it was gonna cost JUST to play it on my cpu with the upgrades I had to make. Could have bought a new ps3 and xbox.

What is that link about?

And yeah its strange. First it was said that Witcher II was coming for consoles and later they said nothing was confirmed yet, ah well. This reminds me of having to try out the demo of The Witcher I on my new laptop now. I tried it on my previous laptop, but that didn’t go all too well. In terms of specs, this laptop is more powerful.

#32

spiderLAW
25/06/10, 9:11 pm

ive leaned that specs dont always mean better
My GeForce T220 (1032mb ram, 833mhz, Direct X 10.1) was technically better than my ATI (forgot which one but it was 856mb ram, 745mhz, Direct X 10.1) but when testing the games, my ATI performed wit better frame rates. ATI card allowed me 70-85 fraps on COD4 at max settings and the GeForce only allowed 65-70 fraps on max settings.

True. Look at the Netbook ASUS NV01N or something like that. I saw youtube videos of that thing running Mass Effect 2 with everything set on high running smooth as hell. But it’s not even a 2ghz processor. It’s the ION powered graphicscard and i think also the processor itself. There’s a good chance ME2 would run like shit with everything on high on my laptop (Core I3) but it runs smooth as butter on that particular netbook. Crazy :)

#34

spiderLAW
25/06/10, 10:19 pm

@33
That is crazy
Core I3 is great for gaming (depends on chipset)
Most of the gaming power lies in the graphics unit though. Processor havent been the main area of gaming power since 2001 when they switched their developing focusing on graphics cards (easier to code for and more profit)

Hitman 5…aw shit, don’t even get me started. Why the hell ain’t it even here yet? Blood Money was so awesome, but we’re getting Kane 2 first. It seems to be doing everything right, that the first one was doing verrrrry wrong. But i want a new Hitman yeah…hell yeah.

Demo of The Witcher runs very well, most settings are set to high on default, didn’t change anything. Some cutscenes were kinda stuttering but nothing too bad. I have to really get used to this combat system though, damn.

@36 Hitman was put on a hiatus as IO got sick of doing game after game. I think we could be getting a freedom fighters sequel as well.

#38

Moonwalker1982
25/06/10, 11:52 pm

I can only respect that, that they didn’t want to ‘milk’ Hitman even more. But Blood Money was a DAMN fine game. IMO it shitted on the previous one and hell…also on Hitman 2. But with todays graphics in gaming, physics and what not, they could make a awesome new Hitman game. It HAS to happen sometime.
