Hiromichi Tanaka: Currently no plans for Final Fantasy XIV on 360

finalfantasyxiv

Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka has said that Square Enix currently has “no plans” for an Xbox 360 version of his game, although he did admit that the company is “still in talks with Microsoft”.

Speaking in an E3 interview with RPG Site, Tanaka said the company is only working on the “PS3 and Windows version of the game” at the moment.

Elsewhere in the interview Tanaka said that while the version shown on the E3 show floor was running with a full resolution of 1080p, the final PS3 version won’t support this.

“The PS3 version will be running in 720p in order to ensure performance remains high quality, but the PC version can go up to 1080p if your machine is powerful enough. We also support multiple displays, so players can use two or three displays to show the game.”

Finally, the producer said the game is still on track to be released before the end of the year.

“Yes, that is the plan,” he said. “In fact, we were planning to bring the director, Komoto-san to this interview as well, but he had to remain in Japan to work on the game, so it is really at a critical finishing stage at the moment.”

Final Fantasy XIV Online was unveiled by Square at Sony’s E3 press conference last year.

You can check out the brand new E3 trailer below.

Thanks, Alex Donaldson.

So “no plans” but they’re “in talks.” That sounds like a plan to me. :)

There will be FFXIV for 360 for sure. It’s just some kind of restriction.

Interesting, there will be crossplatform gaming between PS3 and PC?

We knew this last year.

Won’t work because MMOs and MS don’t go together.

Yup, how many MMO have tried to be on that platform?? And how many succeeded?

Pretty obvious I thought. If MS can agree a pricing structure with SE for Live then it’ll hit 360. If not then it won’t. All the info on this points to issues with how to charge/operate the MMO vs anything to do with the actual game.

I understand FFXIII sold much more on PS3, so if MS don’t think it’s worth changing their rules to support, or if SE decide not to budge because they think most interest will be via PS3 then I guess it might never hit 360.

In talks with Microsoft ? That’s money changing hands for you.

@10

Thats one when 360 was not competitor as far as consoles go. Now Champions was supposed to go on the 360 didn’t happen because of MS. Age of Conan also. The list goes on and on but everyone of developers have stated they are willing to go on the 360 but MS is unwilling to work with them. MS wants people to pay for Gold along with paying the monthly sub to the MMO and who is going to do that?

FFXIV players.

Doubt that when they could just go on the computer and just pay 15$ instead of 30$.

So will it be possible to have one account for both the PC and PS3? For me, I would like to be able to play it on my PS3 when I’m at home and on my laptop when I’m away. They should definitely take that into consideration IMO.

@17 Of course not. How Sony will make money if you have an account from a PC version?

Even all Sony MMORPG games like DC Universe Online and Agency are for different versions/accounts.

@18 Incorrect. FF XI, which XIV is the sequel to, allowed players to access one account from both PC and PS2 with only one subscription fee. Possibly xbox as well, althought I’m not 100% certain about that one… it used the same servers as the other two, so probably. But definately PC and PS, at least.

Although it’s not yet been confirmed for XIV, this was one of the game’s more popular features, and if it isn’t supported for this one, there’ll be a fair amount of subscriber outcry from the established XI user base.

That said, the entire PlayOnline subscription service was diabolical, and really could do with being scrapped and rebuilt. But nothing is known one way or the other yet.

Additionally I don’t believe this has been confirmed or denied for DCUO or the Agency either… you have an irritating habit of making guesses stating them as factual knowledge. There’s little known fact about the account model for either of those titles yet.

@19 really? I never knew that. Interesting stuff.

“you have an irritating habit of making guesses stating them as factual knowledge.”

Actually no. When i know about something i say for 100% Here i really don’t know and it is my Pachter mode, so i’m guessing here. I didn’t know about that, so it’s interesting.

@19 FFXIV is NOT a sequel to FFXI. It was supposed to be at first, hence similar character designs, but then they decided to make it a different world.

Does anyone really care at the end of the day? The journos at E3 weren’t exactly enthused by it as far as I can tell.
