Riccitiello: 3D games may come at a “premium”

EA’s John Riccitiello has said that 3D compatible titles may come at a larger price than usual, and he would welcome this.
The EA man came straight out and said that he would like to see a price plan for new 3D-compatible titles to encourage growth.
“3D may well be one of the next and most important drivers for growth,” Riccitiello told attendees at an E3 breakfast. “That’s yet to be seen and I don’t think it’s a 2010 story in any way, shape or form in a meaningful way.
“But as we move through 2011, 2012, it’s likely to be an opportunity both for additional growth and perhaps premium pricing for titles that better support 3D.”
EA’s own title, Crysis 2 is one title that will support 3D, although whether it takes the Activision route of actually raising the price for it remains to be seen.
Thanks, MCV

Oh no… It started. If they will make price of the games to cost more, then i will quit console gaming.

Heh heh, anyone would think he was trying to sabotage the whole thing before it got going.

I reckon they are going to separate out Single Player & Multiplayer elements too. So you only get what you pay for. If they are going to separate out 3D in that way why not? It’s not something I would particularly object to either if the prices were right. I generally have no interest in a lot of MP elements to games – and a select few I am just interested in the MP.

I really don’t want 3D.
Really.
If for no other reason that I don’t want to replace my TVs. But also I can easily see the 3D games combining with Move/Wii/Kinect to attempt to create a near holodeck(star trek, sorry) game experience. the end result will be less developing focus on the games I actualy want to play, and even more expensive addons/periphiales that i will need to buy.
It just doesn’t excite me one damn bit.
If consoles shift to 3D, I will shift to PC. Even more then I do now.

3D can really do little more than enhance the 2D image. It doesn’t provide big gameplay changes, just makes existing stuff more immersive. So any game which supports 3D should be perfectly playable in 2D too.
On his point. Adding 3D is not a simple task – though it can be mitigated by other factors such as already doing split screen – so having 3D as a paid for DLC add-on isn’t a ridiculous idea. Adding on to the standard price of a game because of it is because a lot of people who don’t use it will then have to pay – see also multiplayer online gaming. I’m saying this as someone likely to get a 3DTV soon. If it’s done well I don’t mind paying extra – I don’t want to see a standard price increase to support it though.

If EA had their way, Nintendo 3DS games will cost $50-$60 each. Lets be thankful they still suck at selling games for Nintendo consoles.

From what i understand there would still be two offerings of the game but one would cost a bit more because it has 3D on it.
Tbh that’s fine for me, i can just go about buying my games normally and let the 5 people that will buy the 3D version have them all to themselves.

EA have always been worst then Acti. Acti’s only crime has been to overcharge for something everyone charges for anyway. Riccitiello wants to charge for everything, even stuff thats been free till now.

I’m so sick of this guy seriously, you cock sucker mother fucker shut the fuck up! Nobody asked for your goddamn 3D games. So take your premium ($70?) games and shove them up your ass!
If anyone can get my post to this prick please do. I want him to know if I saw him in real life I wouldn’t hesitate to beat the living shit out of him. I’m so sick of assholes like him taking advantage of this medium. I refuse to let assholes like him destroy the game industry like hollywood has with the movie industry.
Sad thing is though most of you guys who blindly support shit like this are slowly killing gaming. Put down the fucking games for a month or two and go outside and hurt E.A. where it hurts them the most! Their damn wallets.

Yay, let’s charge extra for a feature 99% of gamers won’t be able to use.

If they sale 3d as an add on it will fail. Likely they will put a 3d tax on games like they did with there hd tax raising the price of games from $59.99 to $69.99 and it will fail. I’m not buying a 3d tv anytime soon. Only way I get a 3d tv is if thats all there is when I need a new tv. Still im not spending $100 for 3d glasses.
I don’t want 3d with or without glasses. If its so hard to implement that it cost more money then don’t do us any favors.
