Gran Turismo 5 information blow out

Thursday, 17th June 2010 16:52 GMT By Joe Anderson

It  has been a long time coming and now thanks to E3 we know a few more facts about Gran Turismo 5.

Gran Turismo 5 will feature more than 1000 licensed cars from the world’s top manufacturers and more than 20 tracks with more than 70 variations, including famous world circuits, city courses, and other environments.

The game will also feature real-time visual damage with adaptive and accurate car deformation based on point of impact and velocity.

One of the main additions is a brand new online and community mode which features the ability to go head to head against up to 16 players, although there are also other online modes which allow you to host private races with lobbies supporting up to 32 players per lobby.

Text and Voice chat will also be available online.

In addition to the above the game includes the following:

  • Various professional race modes from around the world such as NASCAR, World Rally Championship, Super GT and more.
  • Two-player split/screen mode.
  • Career mode returns with a full world map, licensed car dealerships, tuning and body shops, and car washes. Start your car collection, customize them to your liking, and live the life of a pro racer.
  • Compete in franchise mainstays like point-based Championship Race series and hone your skills with License Tests.
  • Gran Turismo TV Video gives players access to an online clearinghouse of great motorsport video programming (both HD and SD – all broadcast quality) through PSN. Users can now export this content to the GT PSP Museum (GT PSP required).
  • Photo Mode and Photo Album allows users to capture their greatest GT moments, and share with friends. Players can stage and capture stylish shots from a number of angles and locations.
  • Photo Album can be shared online, and the Online Replay Album lets players capture replay video from their favorite races and upload them to YouTube for the world to see.
  • Players can create custom soundtracks from music stored on their PS3s to play in-game.
  • Players who own Gran Turismo PSP and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue can transfer cars unlocked in that game directly to their garage in Gran Turismo 5 for use in Arcade Mode through special cross-talk interoperability.

Gran Turismo 5 releases on November 2 in the US. We are still tracking down a EU date from Sony.

    Well then, I’m satisfied.

That said, I had a blow out once…damn Taco Bell.

P.S. @Razor, that must have been some comment for Johnny to edit it, sorry I missed that one. ;)

I should be getting a Polyphony one-on-one today. If you have any questions, put them here.

I think it said in the preview on Eurogamer that the standard cars don’t have interiors. Does that mean there is no interior view, or simply that they aren’t as detailed as the premium cars?

Another one, will there be point to point races?

I have a question Pat; Tire marks, why dont any of the cars in the trailers leave them?

    1) How much cars will have realistic damage?

    2) how much cars will have mechanical damage?

    3) Are there any plans for releasing collectors editions with other Kyosho models? Maybe European collectors edition will be somehow different?

    4) European release date in Gamescom? :)

Good stuff. I’ll ask all those.

Can we get some clarification on the difference between 800 standard and 200 premium cars. More importantly, does all 1000 cars have an interior cockpit view?

Though it could be a translation error, but other websites detailed that only the 200 premium cars will have (and I quote) “interiors.” Does “interiors” also mean “cockpit view?” Being a huge GT fan, I would find this underwhelming that only 200 cars will have a cockpit view.

    Thanks in advance!

Just popped up in my mind:

Is Porsche (not RUF) and Formula1 in the game? Can we get more detail of the performance tuning options in career mode. Is engine swapping an option?

Yeah, the most important questions anyone can ask right now are…

1: Can you drive the standard cars using cockpit view? If so, is that cockpit view just a generic wheel / dash or is it modelled on the appropriate car.

2: How many countries, tracks and variations of tracks are in the game currently.

3: Will there be weather (rain / snow), and if so, is it dynamic or set to a specific type before the race?

Questions 1 and 2 being the most important… and specifically how you ask them. Don’t let them say that standard cars don’t have fully modelled interiors (it’s meaningless) or that there are 20 locations (instead of specifically how many tracks / countries / variations).

They’re like slippery weasels. But I’m sure you’ll pin em down Pat. :D

    @Pat for Yamu

1 – The trailer shown at E3 suggests some kind of link up with Red Bull (pictures of F1 driver Vettel and technical head Newey), is this true and in what shape does the link up take?

2 – After such a long development time, have there been any particular points in the dev cycle that have particulary frustrating, to the point where he just wanted to get the project finished and out of the door? What were these issues?

Now that the engine is in place can we expect a much faster tunraround for future GT games?

How do you feel knowing this may be the greatest ever racing game?

Are there any features you had to cut?

  19. theevilaires

NO! I don’t want them to make GT6 this gen…I will not buy it….until it hits $20 :P but seriously release this one and start working on 6 for launch PS4 title.

    (kill Ridge Racer Dammit) :D

I find the notion of standard cars and premium cars ridiculous. only 200 premium cars have cockpit mode? stupid. nascar? extra stupid.

    #20 5 years ago
  21. Gekidami

-Will you ever make something non-racey? Or maybe a more arcadey racer?

  22. cookiejar

Tourist Trophy 2 would be good next.

    #22 5 years ago
  23. theevilaires

Cookiejar if you want to play all those great games you just saw at E3….never mention Tourist Trophy again….as a matter of fact it never existed you understand me :D

Can you get some info on the career progression and the unlocking structure? 1000 cars is great, but I don’t want to spend 1000 hours each to get the 50 I probably want.

  25. Moonwalker1982

Seen several movies now, none of them showing any damage. I thought GT5 was finally gonna have a full damage system?

    #25 5 years ago
  26. Gekidami

Apparently some of the car manufacturers wouldnt have it for a few of their models.

    #26 5 years ago
  27. Mike

Then they should’ve dropped the car manufacturers’ cars from the game.

    #27 5 years ago
  28. theevilaires

Its gonna really suck if the same cars in Forza have damage but not in GT5

So drop the car manufacturers and than have even more people bitch that there aren’t some of the top car makes? Not really an option. All the previews i have read have said that the 800 ‘standard’ cars have mechanical damage, scuffs/scratches and some denting. Whats wrong with that?

What damage did Forza 3 have exactly? Codemasters levels of damage?
