What did you expect Gears 3 to be? New campaign with some new features and maybe some new multiplayer stuff – horde mode in Gears 2 was the best element for me. Never played the campaign of Gears 2.

Glad to see them in some nice outdoor enviorment with trees, etc. Was getting really sick of that underground cavern crap in Gears 2…

No not really. I know Epic can’t do much with the 360 anymore as its maxed out and there’s little room for major improvements graphical and technical wise.

Well I saw gow2 for the first time last week and at a friends house, and I gotta agree theevilaires I dont see ANY difference…..so I have to agree with his comments

Gears looks every bit as good as the other top console exclusives.

It runs at 720p/30fps just like the other top console exclusives and has texture and lighting quality comparable to the other top console exclusives, so you can shut the fuck up about ageing hardware, platform superiority or whatever ego-boosting bullshit you have in your childish little pea brain TEA.

In a post God of War 3 world, Gears 3 has a lot of catching up to do grahically, imo.

In a post UC 2 world everything needs to catch up

No catching up necessary, Gears is on par with anything on consoles.

Also, God of War has no free camera so can make many shortcuts with geometry and assets. Compare like for like or it’s meaningless.

Erm id hardly say Gears and UC 2 are on the same level graphically, Unreal engine 3 looks a bit dated now and even though Gears 3 looks good the graphics look the same as Gears 2 imo. Amongst the many games that use unreal though Gears is definatly the best looker or maybe Mass Effect.

Well that’s an opinion. UC2 swaps some texture quality for post-processing and has less moving objects on-screen but they are about even overall.

As did Uncharted 2 and God of War 3.

I happened to go through Gears 2 AFTER both U2 and GOW3, so this is the only reason I can think of that Gears 2 didn’t impress me as much and actually seemed kinda bland.

Definitley looking forward to Gears 3, just saying, they got some catching up to do GRAPHICALLY.

Gears Of War 3 Looks like a blast. I hope my friend will give me 360 just for this game.

this is the only game that i really like from the 360 library. Graphically it’s not a beast and never was, but UE3 was never graphical beast and Gears Of War was always about the gameplay and story in some it’s own way.

Gears Of War 3 looks slightly better then the second one. It’s more colorful.

but people who say that it is better then God Of War 3 or Uncharted 2 or Killzone 3, they must check their eyes or they are blind with fanboyism because it’s an exclusive to 360.

Gears 3 looks great, but the essence of it is not in the graphics and never will be. There are low resolution UE3 textures that you can’t fix because of that engine. Low filters, 2007 shaders, look at the models and shiny blood. You ccan’t fix that. But this is how it works with the engine.

Unreal Engine priority was only physics and gameplay elements and graphics was the last thing about that engine. That was a philosophy behind Unreal engine and thats how they sell it. It was very simple to program for it.

Erthazus, for the first time EVER, I was on your side, up untill you brought KZ3 into it… That game WAS NOT that impressive and IMHO not better than even Gears 2.

@MushroomStamp, Killzone 3 looks not amazing for me. It looks crap, but it definetily look better then Gears Of War 3. The reason is simple: Look at the animations and Morphological stuff in the faces and sea especially.
They are great. But seriously, games are identical, but animations really where Killzone is better then other shooters.

for me, the only game that has better animations is Crysis 1. Don’t know about Crysis 2, kinda felt like they changed it a bit for a consoles.

I never said Gears3 didn’t look good, I just said they can’t do a huge leap from the last one because the 360 is maxed out. The GPU and CPU are just no match for RSX and CELL.

They need to understand that. This is not just my opinion, it is a fact. I will still purchase Gears3 and play it with G1GA, Reask, Psycho, or whoever.

Gears 2 does not look as good as Uncharted 2, God of War 3 or Killzone 2…sory Xbots.
I like Gears of War just as much as any guy, and i still play part 1 and 2 till this day and know that it doesnt compare to those 3 in terms of graphics. Gameplay, yes its up there with the top games out there on any console. Graphics, top for xbox but does not compare with the top 3 on PS3 and that isnt opinion. An opinion would be if i were to say that Gears is just as good as those 3 games in terms of art direction and game design. That would be and is my opinion of that nonsense.

On the actual article: Gears 3 looks fucking amazing. Definitely an increase in shader quality and the gameplay looks even better than part 1 and 2. My only problem is with how big Marcus is, they could have added definition in his muscle structure. He looks like hes got lots of fat on his arm on top of his muscle and i being an ex-trainer know that a guy running around in a heavy suit fighting big-ass monsters all day would look cut up (ripped).Shit, ex-trainer or not, everyone knows the amount of stress this guy puts on his body would make anybody look ripped. He would look more like how Cole did in Gears 1 and 2, just white.
