Update: Sony has gotten back with us regarding cross-game chat being implemented in a future update. The response is below.

Original: Cross Game Chat is not part of Sony’s PlayStation Plus service and was never intended to be, apparently.

After the option was listed yesterday on several PS+ sites and then removed, we contacted Sony, only to be told by a rep that cross-game chat was not “part of the plan”.

“Cross-game voice chat was not announced as part of PlayStation Plus,” the rep told VG247. “The new offering provides subscribers features such as frequent discounts on PlayStation Store content, free and exclusive access to select games, full game trials, early invitations to select betas of popular games, and new functionality such as content downloads and updates which will automatically be “pushed” to the PS3 system even when consumers are not using their system.”

We have contacted Sony to ask if Cross Game Chat is under consideration for release on future firmware.

[Update]

A Sony rep has responded to our inquiry over whether or not cross-game chat  was under consideration for release in the future:

“We do not comment on potential future announcements and while we have not made any specific plans to roll out additional PlayStation Plus offerings, we are always working on identifying new partnerships, developing new features and providing new content that our users want.”

So there we go.

Smells fishy… There MUST be a reason for them including it in the PlayStation Plus description. Even the Norwegian version of the PS+ website included it, in Norwegian, right after the Sony press conference. Hmm.

You know I have no problem with what PSN plus offers but I do have a problem with the price. Doesn’t seem like it’s worth the investment.

A Sony market had said even if thats the case which its not that wouldn’t stop them since companies all the time use others patented projects look at the Touch screens that emerged on phones after the Iphone. They pay the company a small fee for using it.

@2 you can’t patent an idea only the process in which it is done, in other words Sony have to use a different technique to deliver cross game chat or suck it up and pay m$ a premium for using their technique

Then they have to attach it to the PSN+ because you pay for Skype which Sony says that is not their plan.

Skype is free. I can call my PC and other PSP’s with my PSP using Skype for free. Why not add such feature to the PS3?

How come you guys at VG247 don’t ask Sony these questions Damn man!

Ahh I have never used it so I googled it and the page was talking about rates and such for it so I assumed it was like Vongo where you paid for it.
