AC producer: Désilets made the “right decision” to leave Ubisoft

Assassin’s Creed creative producer Patrice Désilets made the “right decision” to leave Ubisoft Montreal, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood producer Vincent Pontbriand has told Eurogamer.

Speaking to the site, Pontbriand said “It’s hard for me to talk about that as he’s a friend.

“After 12 years at Ubisoft he just decided he needed a break, and he was six years also on Assassin’s Creed.

“For a creator after a while it becomes harder to feel you have enough distance from what you’re doing. Personally I think it was the right decision.”

He then added that despite his departure, it wouldn’t have a massive negative impact on the development process of the game.

“That’s the good news,” said Pontbriand. “Assassin’s Creed is a 200-strong team and success comes from some key elements, but that’s not the whole story. There’s a huge creative team and we’ll be fine, but that’s a tough one for him.”

VG247 can reveal Désilets was due to show up at E3 this week to do promotional work on Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. In fact, we were meant to have a 1-on-1 interview with him later today on the game.

EG reports that Ubisoft UK staff weren’t told of his departure up until a day before it was officially confirmed.

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood releases on November 16 in the US for PS3, 360 and PC, as confirmed in the E3 trailer released yesterday.
