Rare website starts counting down – get guessing

rare countdown

Rare’s website now has a countdown on its homepage. It has seven days left. Can you guess why? Betcha you can’t.

The page also shows a message, “one in a million”, with an Xbox avatar standing in front of the timer.

The countdown comes as the first-party MGS studio announced a rebranding last week to celebrate its 25th anniversary to more of a casual/lifestyle brand.

Can you say “Natal“? Can you say “fitness game“? Good.

Expect the reveal to come at either Microsoft’s E3 presser or its Natal experience event next week. Get timings on them here.

Thanks, IGN.

I’m expecting more than a single Rare game to be announced, or at least i hope anyways! Especially if their going to be doing a fitness game i also hope for something like a new Banjo, Killer Instinct or Perfect Dark!

I wonder if the fitness game will be maybe based around Rare characters, like the mini games that bound to be included?

Hmmm… Maybe something similar to PS Home? Not likely, but it’s a thought.

Why would they tease a fitness game? The demographics for those two concepts don’t really mix.

Not to say Rare aren’t making a fitness game, but I doubt that’s what the countdown is for. If anything I’d be more inclined to go along with Amored’s suggestion, at least to a certain extent: some sort of social network type environment for Avatars, which a fitness game might report user data to, say. Perhaps it could even be a way to keep track of and group your Friends, given the lifting of the 100 limit…

That is, of course, nothing but an educated guess. On the upside it’s all the more impressive if I’m right.

Is it something only 1 in a million Xbox users will actually care about?

I kind of like their rebranding. Their old stuff was looking decidedly tired.

A fitness game would make a lot of sense. Wasn’t there a story last year about an enhancement to make your avatar’s weight and height match your own?

“” – ah, come on now; that’s just in poor taste.

It’s so wrong, but I just hope that in 7 days time, there’s an update, and a movie of an explosion, and a trailer starts like a live action news report, played entirely straight, warning people to evacuate from the vicinity of a perilous unexploded device. Viewers then learn that experts have been summoned, and…Blast Corps returns, signified by a team in BC branded attire bustling through the crowd of media, hair all out of place and out of breath. As the anchor prepares to seg out, thy get a few words out of hope to the viewer, the feed cuts; and in its place, 2011, in yellow shimmering text, on black. :D

Rare hasn’t made a great game in easily 5 years. They are the duke-nukem of developers as far as I’m concerned.
