Vanquish gameplay make mouths drop

Monday, 7th June 2010 12:59 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Vanquish. It’s Gears of War on Japanese steroids with Shinji Mikami and Bayonetta devs Platinum involved.

The gameplay video below proves it without a shadow of a doubt. It’s amazing. It’s jaw dropping. It’s well wicked.

One to watch next week in LA, more so because Nathan’s interviewing Mikami!

Hit this up for the most recent trailer of it.

Vanquish releases on PS3 and 360 in the west this winter.

Via AGB. Thanks, mington.

Holy hell. There’s more action in this “basic gameplay” than in the entirety of most third person shooters.

I would love to see this being played by an expert.

i love it. looks really fast paced and slick gameplaywise. i also admire the artdesign. a little japanese influence (giant mechs etc.) – but not too much…this really turns me on. looks like another great game this fall….oh my- have to make decissions i guess. i think i´ll probably go with this, reach, kingdom hearts psp and brink. this will suck all the time i have and more…continue with moh and cod later…damn….then there will be fable as well. tough.

    brilliant, but why no coop??

  7. Happy Hardon Harry

    Pretty much run-of-the-mill stuff.

  8. Boris Fett

@6 Because not every game has to have co-op?

It’s way GearS/Resideent Evil, but it looks way more free with it’s control and far quicker.

This generation has been all about making controls feel great. We understand 3D now, some nailed it last generation, but with the budgets nowadays, eery game is it’s own foray into controls and feel.

    is there competitive multiplayer?

or do i remember reading that they’re not doing multiplayer

this game look made for small map grudge matches 2 vs 2

  11. Blerk

It’s very ‘busy’, isn’t it? It’s sort of like Gears but also sort of like Bayonetta. Do we know if they’re doing a demo?

I hope that’s an early build and the framerate is going to improve a lot. It speeds up a lot once the enemy blows up at the end, so it looks like it’s trying to do with too much on-screen at once.

  13. DaMan

@8 I think this one does, probably a versus mode as well.

even if it’s more of a stylish combat game. multiplayer would only add more fun and replay value to this one.

Is that the PS3 or 360 version? The analog stick towards the end I can’t tell whether that’s the 360 or the PS3 controller.

    #14 5 years ago
  15. Blerk

The stick looks concave rather than convex, so it’s probably the 360 version. Although it might be ‘generic placeholder stick’.

A tps that lacks online multiplayer, seems like a must buy at $20 or $30.

I plat’d Bayonetta and i’ll plat this too.
    Looks great, cant wait.

looks like platinum’s take on gears pretty much, looks cool :)

  19. Tallon 4

Damn that’s fast. I hope there’s more to it, but it looks great!

Ugh yeah, great another generic shooter.

Thats looking awesome, cant help but think it may get repetitive though.

    eh…looks smooth that’s about it.

    Looks like The Conduit

  24. Raining_Upwards

    It looks… Alright.

Kinda reminds me of Zone Of The Enders crossed with Gears Of War, but lacking the immediate flair of either.

    Time will tell I guess.

  25. manamana

I hope its not duck&shoot all the time, but it looks very hot.

  26. DaMan

the only ‘flair’ ZoE had were it’s graphics.

    #26 5 years ago
  27. polygem

@14. i bet it´s the ps3 version because ps3 is main development platform for this one

  28. NiceFellow

okay but nothing ‘wow’ for me – and I hope you can switch off the HUD occupying the entire right side of the screen as it’s way too big and by the looks of it unnecessary to boot.

    #28 5 years ago
  29. Raining_Upwards

@26 – Hence my reference to ‘immediate flair’.

    #29 5 years ago
  30. Blerk

@27, actually you might be right. The icon that flashes up right before he ‘vaults’ out from cover looks like a DualShock and (rather worryingly) perhaps implies that it uses the SixAxis for that action – i.e. shake the pad up and down to pop out of cover. :-|

  31. DaMan

    @29 oh, fair enough then.

btw, for some reason the part where he performs a combo reminded me of God Hand. awesome.

    #31 5 years ago
  32. Raining_Upwards

    @31 God Hand… A guilty pleasure of mine i’m afraid :)

  34. Galactic_Barret

    Mmm, Zone of the Enders…

  35. Howie Feltersnatch

    looks too cookie cutter

    #35 5 years ago
  36. MushroomStamp

Only complaint is the poorly designed HUD. It’s HUGE and in the way. It needs a much smaller footprint. This oversized HUD takes away from the immersion.

    #36 5 years ago
  37. xino

    too generic as a shooter.

the only impressive thing was the animation and when he slide pause and shoot.

    #37 5 years ago
  38. Gekidami

Cant say i’m really impressed, maybe the game will have some decent looking set pieces.

    #38 5 years ago
  39. 5ive

    so stupid game….

    #39 5 years ago
  40. poopoofruit

@33 gears 3 looks nothing like this, besides the cover
