Mega-Extreme Rumour – Half Life 2: Episode Three menu shot leaked [Update]

half-life 2 ep 3

Update: Once again internet, we’ve been had. We love Bank Holidays. Bring back some proper news, please.

Original Story: Is it? Could it? At last? Has the dream become a reality?

Obviously, do take with the biggest load of salt you can find right now, but RPS is carrying what appears to be a menu shot of Half Life 2: Episode Three, coming from a Facebook profile which has since either gone down or been deleted.

The enviroment is shown as snowy background, although the reason why that could be is possibly down to how Episode Two ended. Don’t worry, we won’t spoil it.

If this is real, it would be a big surprise, considering all Valve is focusing on right now, it seems, is Portal 2.The E3 dream is still alive, it looks like.

Ep Three itself has apparently been in development in the shadows since the release of Ep Two, with Valve boss Gabe Newell saying as recently as last August that it was still in development.

Again: salt, truckload, carry it. We’ll ship off an email to Valve, and will update when or if we get a reply.

Do you think Valve would leave it this long just to create another episode?

I’d imagine we’ll see Half Life 3 with a revised Source Engine.

Not a surprise it’s a fake but Valve needs to show something. What are they doing all the time…? People want to see some Episode Three stuff, can’t imagine they have nothing proper to show at this time.

E3, Valve, please? :P

You know, i still don’t understand what Valve smoking by making Half-Life 2:Ep3. It is a simple Source engine, i can’t possibly understand what they are making there.

I hope atleast for a quality title like Half-Life 2. Half-Life: Ep1,2 were big dissapointments and probably were very rushed so thats why maybe HL2:Ep3 is so long in production.

@10

Its simple they aren’t developing it they are too busy with L4D series to worry about Half life 2: Ep 3.

@Erthazus: My guess is that the game is taking so long because it isn’t based on the Source engine. Also, both E01 and E02 were awesome. The first one less so, though.

@13 Yeah, thats maybe true. I’m sick of L4D franchise to be honest.

@14 New Source? I think we will see it with Half-Life 3, but to make new engine with (probably) last episode?
Maybe they are making old Source engine more powerful, like new effects, shaders, maybe destruction.
But really… I like Source how it is now. Even if it is outdated, Valve know how to make their games on that engine that will look great.

@15

Improbable that there will be a new engine for Half Life 3 considering how Gabe Newell has said many times that the episodes are half life 3, in fact he didnt refer to them as episodes in an interview he referred to them as “Half Life 3″

instead of making L4D games they should concentate more on episode 3…. my opinion

If HL2: Ep3 doesn’t get released this side of Christmas, I’d be very disappointed…
