Rumor: Michel Ancel leaves Ubisoft Montpellier, Beyond Good & Evil 2′s future in doubt

“Hello, sir. Yes, and if you’ll just sign right here…”
“Um, excuse me, but what are you delivering, exactly?”
“Why, it’s the rain you ordered, of course. For your parade.”
According to a source close to Ubisoft Montpellier that spoke with French site Woot Gaming (translation via NeoGAF) Beyond Good & Evil creator Michel Ancel has bid a not-so-fond farewell to Ubisoft Montpellier in order to form his own studio. Apparently, another well-known developer will be joining him.
The source cited issues with Beyond Good & Evil 2′s development as the reason behind Ancel’s departure. However, Ancel hasn’t flown the Ubisoft coop altogether, but instead wishes to pursue more “classical” 2D games under Ubisoft’s umbrella.
Although nothing’s been confirmed, this would seem to suggest that Beyond Good & Evil 2 – which Ancel was a driving force behind – is in trouble. Previously, the game was said to be “in production” after a long period of radio silence from Ubisoft.
We’ll get in touch with Ubisoft and see if we can wrangle an official statement.

Ubisoft really doesn’t seem to know much about it’s franchises and what makes them good.
Constant rebooting, hit and miss sequals, and ofcourse canceling the one thing people might actually want.

Well… that’s the end of that, then. Sigh.
They probably wanted to put a Clancy license on it or something.

Ubisoft just told us “Rumors without comment. There is nothing new to say, everything continues normally
” Note sure what it means…

I thought this was cancelled already?
And as for giving people what they want in #2
BG&E 2 isn’t it. BG&E was a lauded fail. The sequel is hamsterfood.

No BG&E2 and departure of Ancel from UBI = I won’t buy any games from them. I hate companies that destroy their best talents…

Of course, he also made Rayman. BG&E was sort of a fluke.

Thank Google translation for letting everyone else see the bickering and squabbling going on between your source and another french site, both claiming to have spoken to Ubisoft sources and each contesting the others version of events, and outcome/status of BG&E 2.
and, E3 is only weeks away – coincidence: Never :p The season starts once again, prepare salt pinches and don’t believe all that’s about, lol!
