I’m pretty impressed by how low BC2 has gone. I was thinking it would consistently beat World At War until Black Ops came out.
I guess I’m not the only one that put it down after a month.

Only one game in the top ten is NOT a shooter.
And where is Alan Wake? Its not even in the top 20.

@9 Or it could just mean that you don’t like CoD. I don’t either. I would much rather play BFBC2. But that doesn’t make other people idiots if they don’t play it. It just means they enjoy something else.

@9 Unrepentantly supporting MW2 in the face of the unwavering internet shitstorm is hardly sheep-mentality. The sheep thing to do, would be jumping on the bandwagon where everybody consistently tell themselves and eachother, that Bad Company 2 was actually the better game. Which it quite clearly will never be.
Doesn’t make it a bad game, though, and I am pretty surprised that it’s so far down. Tells you a lot about internet trends.

“The sheep thing to do, would be jumping on the bandwagon where everybody consistently tell themselves and eachother, that Bad Company 2 was actually the better game. Which it quite clearly will never be.”
And by what argument is it not the better game?
Arguing about “internet trends” when you actually look at the content of this week’s list is ignoring loads of crucial facts. You might also want to take a look at the list more closely.
First of all, the only reason ODST is in there is because you need to boot it up to get through to the Reach Beta. Secondly, since the Beta is now over, both those games will disappear off the list.
Red Dead Redemption only just came out. Of course it’s going to be right near the top. So was GTAIV when it was released.
Being in the top 5 – 6 is hardly “bad” by any stretch of the imagination. You make it sound like the game is dead.

@13 Because the word “better” is just subjective and someones opion.

@OlderGamer Obviously. But he’s claiming it as fact: “Which is clearly will never be.”

In a sense you are right. Well a fact really. But the idea is that is enough people share the same opinion of what is good or better then that turns it into fact.
I don’t agree with that notion. But I think that is where he was going with it.

@16 Someone would have to be pretty damn blind to actually delude themselves into thinking that popularity is equatable to quality.
If that were the case, Lady Gaga would be considered a credibly musical artist, most movie license games would rank amongst the best games of all time, and Titanic would be one of the greatest stories in movie history.

Sorry, but popularity is directly based on quality. Perhaps not the quality that every single person looks for, but quality nonetheless.
Suggesting otherwise is blind elitism.
More people play MW2 because the are enjoying it more. Simple as.
It may have worse visuals, audio, gameplay, or whatever else you want to throw at it, but it clearly provides more people with a quality of gaming experience that BC2 is simply unable to provide.
Now if enjoying one game more than the other doesn’t make it a better game, then what does?

I’m not so sure popularity is directly based on quality, GHz. After all, Big Beach Sports and Carnival Games have both sold by the truckload on Wii.
EDIT: Oh, we’re talking about online muliplayer… [/backs out of thread]

lol. Yeah, I’m not talking about buying something, playing it once and putting it on the shelf to collect dust until it gets binned or given away to a young relative.
I’m talking about people sticking with one game and playing for maybe an hour a day on average or something. If there wasn’t a quality somewhere in there that people enjoyed, then I can’t see why people would keep going back to it.

@13 By the argument that most experts and indeed gamers don’t think it to be the case. I also think that a lot of the people lavishing hysterical praise on Bad Company 2, seem to be doing so mostly in protest of some percieved, organized evil that the great mastermind Bobby Kotick is orchestrating from his dark castle of Actiblizz..
It’s what you call an internet clusterfuck. One dogged, halfbrained person goes down a road of inane bullshit, and three others think he’s cool, so they follow.
For what it’s worth, I thought BC2 was an alright game, but it was riddled with bugs, the tempo was slow, the vehicles were unbalanced, and the weapons were just ridiculous. It simply wasn’t as finely tuned as Modern Warfare 2 is.
I’m no journalist, I’m merely commenting based on my personal oppinion, having played BC2 to the point of unlocking everything. You can look at any aggregate site to see what professional and amateur reviewers think of the game. It all comes to a conclusion that BC2 simply isn’t top of the line.
And no matter how skewed you tell yourself this list is, it still doesn’t change the fact that people still play Halo 3 and World At War (Which was fun, but no milestone) more than they do BC2.
