i was really surprised at split second, the graphics, depth of cars and exciting races are great. blur was great too from the beta, one problem is blackrock didnt really put much effort into the online ranking system plus the stupid buy all the cars dlc so the n00bs have the fastest cars straight away, still manage to win some matches tho which is funny :D

all these reviews are shit, bar the EG one, and even there the score is too low.

I am so disappointed by this game’s reception. I wuv you, Bizarre.

The IGN reviews sucks bigtime. This game has a great MP ( played the beta ). Love S/S too.

Can’t believe some people are bashing on either S/S or BLUR.
Free your mind…those games can both be enjoyed!

S/S is a dumb fucking one-trick pony with non-existential game design or balancing.

yeah in your opinion, no need to get angry over it either. people like split second, deal with it.

@9 people also like Heavy Rain. Or Justin Bieber.

popularity does not make things inherently good. If you are going to go with this line of argumentation, you might as well say that voting Bush over Kerry was good, for example.

Bieber must die. Slowly. And painfully.

@9 i never said that, you seem pissed off because blur hasnt set the world alight in the review scores and just because a couple of us are praising split second you get a piss on. i make my own judgements on purchases thank you very much, if i didnt i would be buying call of duty every year which i cant stand but millions love it, big deal.

I think I’ll pass on Blur, looks a bit shit with the NFS physics. Bring back project Gotham!

you know what, I am going to admit it, I am pissed that people don’t see the brilliance in Blur. I quite simply don’t get it. the IGN review was especially infuriating.

and yes, Split/Second, by all means, is a bag of, admittedly very pretty, shit. Objectively even.
you know what other game is shit? ModNation Racers. I hope you enjoy spending 50% of your time in loading screens.

i see the brilliance in blur, the online was very addictive and nicely set up. i thought the modnation racers beta was alright but nothing special. i’m buying blur anyway, i love arcade racers.

@ Mescalineeyes: If you don’t like S/S..why the hell did you buy it :P

Please don’t tell you “reviewed” the game by playing the awful demo. The full game, is much, much better and way faster than the demo.

Split Second is an amazing game.
Blur doesnt know what it wants to be…

Forza? no.
Mario kart? no.
Midnight Club? no.
Full Auto? Maybe.
Juice? Hell no.

Or a hybrid of all of those games. FUCK NO! Its a game with no substance so tries to flash sexy models in game to hold your interest… wank!

Split Second is very unique in the sense its a great tight arcade racer with a great sense of speed and tenseness when racing with FUCKIN nutty track descruction YOU control. Im actually playing SS right now online and when you have every player on the track bobbing and weaving planes trains and dams of water crashing down on us its VERY VERY epic stuff!

When the sound cuts completely and a train smashes on the track its totally amazing.. i still get goosebumbs even now thinking about it.

and thats my review on Split Second. Lol

Nah seriously though, Blur is shit. Plain and simple.

To our (i.e. Eurogamer Germanys) defense, we gave it a very enthusiastic 8. So yeah, I see the brillance in Blur. But i also see a game of two halves (on and offline) that could have been married a wee bit better, a levelling system in the career that just stops before you even finished and graphics that lack a bit shine. I honestly would have preferred the odd daytime race under the glistening sun, too.

But in the end, yeah. It is clearly superior to Split/Second, which we scored a 7 by the way. It really is a one trick pony with infuriating ai.

cheers,

Alex

#18 Clearly, you have never played Blur.

#17 I bought it because I loved the trailers, was a bit disappointed by the demo but people’s initial impressions of the full-version swayed me to purchase it. I only found S/S to be remotely enjoyable in split-screen, but even there, Blur reigns supreme.

#19 sei nicht blöd ;) the races are not at daytime on purpose, to make the flashy neon shit stand out. personally I like it, split/seconds orange got a bit tiring, so I was double-glad when Blur came in the mail.
(Also, I’d argue that the San Francisco track that goes around the legs of the Golden Gate Bridge is almost in the daylight)

is it sad I am hoping for a sequel already?

@ 22 Lol :)

You’re right. I don’t see the problem. Love BLUR, love S/S.
And if I did not…I wouldn’t bother to ruin the games for others that like them.

@ mescalineeyes: to back you up….the reviewscores for BLUR are too low indeed…you got a point :)

@20 your most definately AINT on drugs….. but your close to thik Blur is a better game.

Ive played blur. i was is the damn beta and i couldnt believe how much fun it was at first… til you see the formula run shallow.

Its a game to rent DEFO. but thats about it.
Theres honestly nothing like split second, which is its charm.
These days its great to have a game different from all the other racers let alone games.

If the game is like the beta, with much more cars and tracks….i’m happy. I loved the beta, and simply expect more cars and tracks, if that’s the case…i’m a buyer.

@ 18

Played the demo of Split Second, and i didn’t like it one bit. For me, if a game ain’t interesting enough in the first 5 or so minutes…i already know its not for me. And when i watch gameplay movies, i just don’t see a game that will hold my interest.

I didn’t like how the cars felt when driving them, simply not a game that i’m gonna buy. Blur on the other hand, awesome fun. Played it plenty of times with friends (the beta) and it was crazy, 20 racers on one track…madness, and so fun.

I think the game is crap myself, but what is up with that IGN video review? It sounds like they pawn it off to one of the interns.

Anthony is hardly an intern, he worked for 1up/EGM and was on Co-Op often, only this time he’s plainly wrong.
