Wada: Square “looking into” FF Versus XIII for 360

ffversusxiii

Holy shit, Batman! Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has come out and said that an Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy Versus XIII is being looked into.

Speaking at an investor meeting during the release of the company’s financials – which saw big brother Final Fantasy XIII sell over 5-and-a-half million units in its fiscal year ending March 31, 2010 – Wada said the following comment when asked if Versus was jumping ship from PS3, caught by Impress Watch:

“We’ll be looking into it internally until right before the formal announcement.”

Since its reveal at E3 2006, Final Fantasy Versus XIII has remained a PS3 exclusive, even when FFXIII jumped to Xbox 360 at E3 2008.

Director Tetsuya Nomura said last year the game’s formal reveal would most likely be coming at E3 next month, although that may potentially not happen now, according to comments made by him in February.

Whatever the circumstances, do not keep your eyes off Matrick for one second on June 14, when Microsoft’s E3 presser takes place.

We will be there, of course, to see if Wada taps his shoulder again or not.

FFXIII and FF Versus XIII are part of a three game trilogy, alongside Final Fantasy Agito XIII, known as the Fabula Nova Crystalis saga.

Thanks, Andriasang.

The truth is, you can’t ignore as large an install base as the XBox 360 has. It’s the same argument for 3rd party XBox 360 exclusives going multiplatform. When you have a market split almost evenly down the middle as the HD gaming market is, multiplatform is the best strategy.

Good, good. Just make some improvements to the hastily developed 360 engine so I can buy it on 360 this time.

I’ve enjoyed FF13 on the PS3 but wish those trophies were achievements instead.

Farewell Internet, it was nice knowing you. :-D

A couple of years back I’d have been stoked for this. Post-FFXIII I feel the need to actually see the game before I can muster any excitement whatsoever.

Actually they are going to cut it. Nomura planned from the start to use sixaxis to the game, but when it will be on other platforms:

Minus one feature already. Thats awesome.

Hasn’t the writing been on the wall ever since FFXIII was announced for 360?

I don’t see what the big deal is.

I hope they polish the 360 version this time. Happy to hear about it since Versus has a neat aesthetic and unlike whiners, I still like Final Fantasy.

Where did you got your Versus information.. haven’t heard of it for maybe 2 years.

@14 The big deal is that this game is in development by Kingdom Hearts team and Nomura not only make design for the characters, he is a writer and director.

Personally, this was the SECOND reason why i bought PS3.

@17 This was information at TGS long ago when they announced FFXIII Versus and Agito. I’m a big fan of Nomura works.

I think Wada is saying this so Sony give more money to them for the game.

@19 No, i really hoped that they could make a COOL use for that. Somehow, it had a potential.

The best use for Sixaxis i saw at shitty game like Killzone 2 with interface with loading screens, it gives you a 3d effect on interface. I thought that was cool.

MGS 4 had this cool thing with one boss.

Great so while they make the 360 version us PS3 owners will have to wait an extra year until they finish. 2013 at the earliest for western countries.

Nomura mentioned ffversus would have towns, npcs, and a world map also airships making a return. His ideas wont go out of the window even if its so that its going to 360 too, just 360 version will be confirmed on 3 discs like previous ff games. But i honestly think it should stay exclusive.

Hmm if i was to speculate id say Vs 13 is taking so long not because of the games development but because they are now porting to the 360.

some of you are fucking grown men acting like spoilt twats

if this game gets released on pc or 360 and you still get to play it, what is your fucking problem? ha ha there shouldnt be one, yet you will still go on this crusade of how the game will be gimped, how unfair you are being treated, how square enix has ripped you off, how you will troll and piss and whine till no one gives a shit about the game and you move onto the next target.

And honestly, after the last FF game?

I don’t see it being a big deal really.

Just another over hyped, cliche’ filled, retread of a JRPG.

That is in development by Kingdom Hearts team and Tetsuya Nomura. I think you are wrong here.

i hope this is better than FFXIII, couldnt get into it at all, boring poorly written characters with the story confusing and bewildering. traded it in without finishing.

would people go with a change to the gameplay in regards to scrapping the turn based system for a system which allows you to totally control the character in battle?

Ugh, this is a sad thing to hear. You can’t complain about missing features when you know nothing of the game, but still.

Don’t tease me, either. I don’t want to hear of anything cut back or any delays. Keep me in blissful ignorance until the game is released. Thats all.

If this happens, I am going to spend the next six months laughing my ass off at all the tears being cried by the PS3 fanboys.

If you bought a console purely based on the exclusively of a THIRD PARTY title years before the game is even released… well, that just makes you an idiot.

@38 I think you might have missed his point entirely.

The fact that the game is “in development by Kingdom Hearts team and Tetsuya Nomura” is exactly why it’s going to be “just another over hyped, cliche’ filled, retread of a JRPG”.

#46

Galactic_Barret
18/05/10, 9:05 pm

@45 That kind of petty. Pathetic, even.

#47

Boris Fett
18/05/10, 9:15 pm

It’s petty to laugh at people for being fanboys? For being ignorant and having a false sense of entitlement? For expecting company’s to conform to their personal tastes, just to validate their own personal decisions, instead of supporting and publishing to the wider gaming community?

Okay then.

Fanboys are people who can’t think beyond their own noses. I’m not one to condone meanness, but they deserve all the mockery they get. Ignorance isn’t a privilege.

#48

Galactic_Barret
18/05/10, 9:33 pm

No, you are right. FFXIII did get pretty funny for a few weeks.

However, not all can be placed on the fanboys. It was said to be exclusive, shouldn’t one expect it to be? I mean, its no excuse to fly off the handle, cursing and carrying on, but being misled isn’t fun. If they were planning on a MP effort, why not say so from beginning?

Taking pleasure from other’s disappointment is pathetic. Doing it because they bought a specific product isn’t cool, to me at least. Would you do that offline? To a friend? I would hope not. Eh, doesn’t really matter. Enjoy the fireworks, just try not to light any fuses.

#49

Boris Fett
18/05/10, 9:45 pm

“It was said to be exclusive, shouldn’t one expect it to be?”

No. Why should it? Obviously the plan was for it to be exclusive. Conditions change, and obviously they are considering a multi-platform release because of that fact.

Back when the game was originally announced, the PS3 was still in its infancy, and Square were likely riding off the stellar success of the PS2. Since then, the PS3 has turned out to be the poorest selling console on the market. It’s only a small margin of a difference though, so it’s hard to choose a “leader”. Only an idiot would keep a third party party exclusive in this economic climate.

The only reason you see it happening on the 360 is because Microsoft have a system in place where they will help fund the development of a game if they make it a timed exclusive. Ever notice how it’s always “troubled” titles with difficult development histories that become 360 exclusives?

And all the fanboys who go on about Square being “Sony exclusive” fail to ignore that the company has always supported the more popular format. The SNES in those days, and the PS1 and PS2 in those day. This generation of consoles is not so clear cut, and considering how poorly current gen consoles are selling in Japan, they would be insane not to develop for both formats, unless they WANT to go under.

And yet people are still hung up because the publisher said a couple of years ago that it would be exclusive, when the climate was COMPLETELY different. They can’t think beyond their own noses and look at the bigger picture.

“Taking pleasure from other’s disappointment is pathetic.”

I’m not taking pleasure in their disappointment. I’m laughing as their ignorance and deluded sense of entitlement. I can understand people being disappointment, but many of these cases go well beyond simple disappointment.

When someone keeps rational expectations of the world, I can respect their opinions. People with a “Me! Me! Me! It’s all about me!” attitude though, I have little respect for.

“Would you do that offline? To a friend? I would hope not.”

If my friend bought a PS3 for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII and then got “angry” at Square and Sony for this? Yes, I would tell him he’s an idiot.

My friends tend to be fairly rational human beings, and where I’m come from we are a very frank people who don’t take criticism personally. Even if they didn’t agree with him, they would simply let it slide off their back afterwards.

Galactic_Barret

No, they’ve said every year since it was shown that it was PS3 exclusive worldwide. I don’t feel entitled to anything, but I don’t like being misled, either. If you’re repeatedly telling something is something, I should be able to believe you.

Forget install bases, and all that, you’re telling me that anyone who believed a statement made by these developers is ignorant, when even gullibility wouldn’t fit.

The onus is on SE: leave room for error, at the very least. How can you fault someone for believing them? Should we just become cynics that take everything as a lie until proven otherwise? That a terrible way to live.
