Wada: Square “looking into” FF Versus XIII for 360

Holy shit, Batman! Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has come out and said that an Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy Versus XIII is being looked into.
Speaking at an investor meeting during the release of the company’s financials – which saw big brother Final Fantasy XIII sell over 5-and-a-half million units in its fiscal year ending March 31, 2010 – Wada said the following comment when asked if Versus was jumping ship from PS3, caught by Impress Watch:
“We’ll be looking into it internally until right before the formal announcement.”
Since its reveal at E3 2006, Final Fantasy Versus XIII has remained a PS3 exclusive, even when FFXIII jumped to Xbox 360 at E3 2008.
Director Tetsuya Nomura said last year the game’s formal reveal would most likely be coming at E3 next month, although that may potentially not happen now, according to comments made by him in February.
Whatever the circumstances, do not keep your eyes off Matrick for one second on June 14, when Microsoft’s E3 presser takes place.
We will be there, of course, to see if Wada taps his shoulder again or not.
FFXIII and FF Versus XIII are part of a three game trilogy, alongside Final Fantasy Agito XIII, known as the Fabula Nova Crystalis saga.
Thanks, Andriasang.

Whether you choose to believe them or not, it’s not worth getting angry at them over. It is what it is, and at the end of the day going multi-platform only benefits everyone.

That’s true…SE had both XIII and Versus XIII in mind exclusively for the ps3 because they believed that the ps3 will have the same success and popularity the ps2 had. They eventually changed their mind with their main XIII title taking it multiplatform and at the same time (2 years ago) they released a Versus trailer being specific confirming and to avoid confusions like what happened with XIII that this will remain exclusive to the ps3(a way to ease the ps3 fans)
Anyway there will be a lot of rage and disappointment if this also goes multiplatform (not just out of fanboyism)but because Versus will be compromised because of the limitations of Dvd’s and not taking advantage of the Blu Ray space given to work with…do expect the same “thing” with XIII all over again which disappointed many.
Then again the “we’re looking into it” quote has been said by many devs before…example Konami said it with MGS4 many times before and after it’s ps3 release but it didn’t happen.
According to SE’s recent statements they would not go against each other if one wants to work on a single console,on a specific format(hint at Nomura and Versus)
so if i have to guess what’s going on i would say that either they’re trying to convince Nomura,or they’re trying along with Microsoft to see if they can do something to port Versus without compromising the whole game altogether so as Nomura tags along with it…off course this could also mean alarm to Sony “do something and support it to remain exclusive”
Anyhow if this is going to happen and the game is not compromised to dvd’s limitations then bring it on…the more the merrier. But if it’s going to end up mediocre and released too late then they better drop the project altogether.

@51 for the above reasons it doesn’t.Not when you have two pretty much the same consoles but with a huge difference in disc space capacity from each other’s formats

@49 completely agree with that.
But the point is, these guys like me that like Nomura’s games and quality expect from this AAA title something really big. MEGATON. for example, this was the SECOND reason on why i bought PS3.
This generation if you ask me the best games are exclusives and with the choice of platform you can use it’s capabilities to show what that platform can do with this game. It’s really important.
FFXIII Versus was an exclusive for Ps3 and they clearly hinted and said that it’s going to be a PS3 exclusive for years, but now let the shitstorm began. We are changing plans dramatically and looking forward for Xbox 360 development. Thats nasty.

Halo is a license owned by Microsoft.
Gears of War is one of those rare exceptions. It’s a franchise that has become “associated” with the 360, is a similar way to how, say, Metal Gear Solid has become associated with the PlayStation. The important difference here is that Final Fantasy is not a “PlayStation” franchise.
Left 4 Dead I agree on, and I’ll never understand why it’s not multi-platform. Valve really should step up their PS3 game.
Uncharted is a first party title. Those are the only reason to buy a specific console. Square Enix is third party.
The same goes for Killzone. It is a first party title, so it is not going to appear on another format even if we wanted it to.
Metal Gear Solid 4 should have been multi-platform, but much like Gears of War, MGS has very much become recognised as a console-specific franchise.
Maybe I should have phrased what I said a little different. THIRD PARTY multi-platform development benefits everyone. First party titles are always going to be driven by the console manufacturers, obviously.
@ everyone else, if the only titles that have shined for you this generation are platform exclusive titles, you seriously need to play more games. There are plenty of multi-format games that have been absolutely stellar.

a game being stellar is a lot different from a game that really “shines”

exactly, pretty much all the exceptional, shining games are multiplat – the before mentioned Burnout and SSF4, Bayonetta, RDR (certainly looks like that so far), Ass Creed 2, DAO etc. LBP being an exception really. that and UC2 visuals wise.
it all depends on your framework, aside from FF12 Squenix games stopped being impressive since early 2000s anyway.

@60 i played many multiplatform titles so don’t say about it.
Still you mentioned only 6 titles and someone said 2 titles like AC2 and Batman.
I didn’t liked Fallout 3 (it’s obvious shitty game compared to F1-2) and Dragon Age is a little bit consolised and dissapointment for the die hard RPG fan that started playing PC RPG games such as Baldurs Gate.
I play a lot of games multiplat or exclusives, don’t matter, but in my opinion Exclusives shines amongst others this gen. This generation it’s important for gamers, last generation it was important for companies. Last gen everybody just had Ps2 or Ps1 and be done with it.
Yeap. Final Fantasy XIII Versus is a perfect shitstorm. Square Enix should announced it at the beggining that it is a multiplat. They teased for this game as a PS3 game for years, now internet explodes again.

so anyway.. I also thought it takes them ridiculous amount of time to finish their projects, ffs The Third Birthday should’ve been out 3 times already.
@68 not in this case
Hindle – ME2 was boring for me, I’ve tried the PC version and couldn’t bring myself to finish it. so.. it’s all opinionated.

@65 That was simply my short list. I can list many more if you so wish.
Also, I grew up on PC RPGs. That doesn’t mean I need to approach one way and one way only. The most appealing thing about RPGs for me is in fact just how much diversity can be found in the genre.
You also seem to forget that Dragon Age on the PC actually does have an entirely different, PC focused interface. And it’s gameplay, while not Baldur’s Gate, is perfectly fine. Of course it’s not Baldur’s Gate, they don’t have the right to use the DnD mechanics.
Hey, don’t get me wrong, LittleBigPlanet, a console exclusive, is easily my Game of the Decade, but to say that *only* exclusive can shine is down right silly.

yh basically this game should be an exclusive and if its not then thats how it is, hopefully they keep the good aspects of the game, and if they hve to cut anything out they should for the xbox and give them it as dlc paid or free i dnt care jus dont cut it out on blu-ray.

It has to maintain parity at launch. All 3rd party PS3/360 titles have to be the same, content-wise, which may be why this is a big deal to some. Any content that can’t fit in the 360 version, doesn’t go into either version.
Even if a PS3 wants to be happy a former exclusive is getting into the hands of more gamers, there are policies in place to keep that game from fully utilizing the system’s advantages that developers would have able to pre-MP status.

I find it both baffling and very pathetic that fanboys would be outraged, or even care, that a previously exclusive title is going multiplatform.
You are very obviously stating that you care only about the platform and not about the game at all.
That’s really sad.
Citing cut content as an excuse for your childish fanboy outburst is simply not valid. The 360 version might have to ship on multiple discs but you know what… the people who buy it on the 360 really won’t care.
I played Lost Odyssey on the 360 and FF13 on the PS3 and all the things that made LO a great game were not even vaguely impacted by it coming on FOUR discs. Similarly I didnt for one second think ‘wow. not swapping discs once every 20 hours of play is great’ when I was playing FF13.
These strawman arguments are not fooling anyone. Drop the fanboyism and enjoy GAMES, not BRANDS you corporate tools.
